Last month, my friend and I spent a weekend in Khiva. We took the night train from Tashkent. The journey was long, about fourteen hours, but we slept most of the time.
O‘tgan oy do‘stim bilan dam olish kunlarini Xivada o‘tkazdik. Toshkentdan tungi poyezdga chiqdik. Yo‘l uzoq edi, taxminan o‘n to‘rt soat, lekin ko‘p vaqt uxladik.
The old city, Itchan Kala, is like a museum without a roof. It has high walls, blue towers and narrow streets. We walked for hours and took hundreds of photos.
Eski shahar — Ichan qal’a — tomsiz muzeyga o‘xshaydi. Uning baland devorlari, ko‘k minoralari va tor ko‘chalari bor. Soatlab yurdik va yuzlab suratga tushdik.
In the evening, we climbed the city wall to watch the sunset. The whole city turned gold. For dinner, we tried shivit oshi, green noodles with meat. It was strange at first, but delicious.
Kechqurun quyosh botishini tomosha qilish uchun shahar devoriga chiqdik. Butun shahar oltin rangga kirdi. Kechki ovqatga shivit oshini — go‘shtli yashil lag‘monni tatib ko‘rdik. Avvaliga g‘alati tuyuldi, lekin mazali edi.
The only problem was the heat. In the afternoon, it was almost forty degrees. My advice: visit Khiva in spring or autumn, and always carry water.
Yagona muammo issiq edi. Tushdan keyin deyarli qirq daraja bo‘ldi. Maslahatim: Xivaga bahor yoki kuzda boring va doim yoningizda suv olib yuring.
We stayed in a small family guesthouse inside the old city. The owner, an old man with a white beard, served us breakfast on the roof every morning: hot bread, eggs, apricot jam and green tea. His grandchildren practised their English with us and asked a lot of questions about Tashkent.
Biz eski shahar ichidagi kichik oilaviy mehmon uyida qoldik. Oq soqolli keksa xo‘jayin har kuni ertalab tomda nonushta tortardi: issiq non, tuxum, o‘rik murabbosi va ko‘k choy. Uning nabiralari biz bilan ingliz tilini mashq qilib, Toshkent haqida ko‘p savollar berishdi.
On the second day, we visited a workshop where young people make wooden doors and columns by hand, just like their great-grandfathers did. One door takes about three months to finish. I bought a small carved box for my mother. It wasn’t cheap, but every pattern on it was cut by hand.
Ikkinchi kuni yoshlar xuddi katta bobolari kabi qo‘lda yog‘och eshik va ustunlar yasaydigan ustaxonaga bordik. Bitta eshikni tugatish uchun taxminan uch oy kerak bo‘ladi. Onamga kichik o‘ymakor quti sotib oldim. U arzon emasdi, lekin undagi har bir naqsh qo‘lda o‘yilgan edi.
Tushundingizmi?
