Every winter, in a small village in northern Sweden, a hotel is built completely from ice and snow. Every spring, it melts back into the river. I had wanted to stay there for years, and last February I finally did.
Har qish Shvetsiya shimolidagi kichik qishloqda butunlay muz va qordan mehmonxona quriladi. Har bahor u erib, yana daryoga qaytadi. Yillar davomida u yerda qolishni xohlardim va o‘tgan fevralda nihoyat bunga erishdim.
Each room is designed by a different artist, so no two rooms are the same. Mine had ice sculptures of polar bears and a bed made from a block of ice, covered with reindeer skins. The temperature inside is always around minus five degrees.
Har bir xonani boshqa rassom loyihalaydi, shuning uchun ikkita bir xil xona yo‘q. Menikida oq ayiqlarning muz haykallari va bug‘u terilari bilan qoplangan muz bo‘lagidan yasalgan karavot bor edi. Ichkaridagi harorat doim minus besh daraja atrofida.
Before bed, a guide showed us how to use the thermal sleeping bags. I was nervous, but surprisingly, I slept well. The silence was incredible. In the morning, staff woke us with a cup of hot berry juice.
Uxlashdan oldin gid bizga issiqlik saqlovchi uyqu qoplaridan qanday foydalanishni ko‘rsatdi. Xavotirda edim, lekin kutilmaganda yaxshi uxladim. Sukunat aql bovar qilmas darajada edi. Ertalab xodimlar bizni bir chashka issiq rezavor sharbati bilan uyg‘otishdi.
Would I do it again? Probably not. One night was magical, but I missed hot showers. Most guests, like me, spend one night in the ice and the rest of their stay in warm cabins nearby.
Yana shunday qilarmidim? Ehtimol yo‘q. Bir kecha sehrli bo‘ldi, lekin issiq dushni sog‘indim. Ko‘pchilik mehmonlar, men kabi, bir kechani muzda, qolgan vaqtini esa yaqin atrofdagi issiq kulbalarda o‘tkazadi.
The hotel is rebuilt every year with about 30,000 cubic metres of snow and ice. The ice comes from the river next to the village: in March, workers cut huge blocks from the frozen river and store them in a cold warehouse until November, when construction begins.
Mehmonxona har yili taxminan 30 000 kub metr qor va muzdan qayta quriladi. Muz qishloq yonidagi daryodan olinadi: martda ishchilar muzlagan daryodan ulkan bo‘laklarni kesib, qurilish boshlanadigan noyabrgacha sovuq omborda saqlashadi.
Apart from sleeping, guests can do many activities: driving a team of husky dogs, riding a snowmobile, or watching for the northern lights. I was lucky: on my second night, green lights danced across the sky for almost an hour.
Uxlashdan tashqari, mehmonlar ko‘p mashg‘ulotlar bilan shug‘ullanishi mumkin: xaski itlari tortadigan chanani haydash, qor mototsiklida yurish yoki shimoliy yog‘dularni tomosha qilish. Menga omad kulib boqdi: ikkinchi kechamda yashil chiroqlar deyarli bir soat osmonda raqsga tushdi.
