When I was twelve, I hated maths. I didn’t understand it, I was afraid of making mistakes, and my marks were always bad. I believed I was “just not a maths person”. Then, in the seventh grade, we got a new teacher, Mr Abdullaev.
O‘n ikki yoshimda matematikani yomon ko‘rardim. Uni tushunmasdim, xato qilishdan qo‘rqardim, baholarim esa doim yomon edi. Men o‘zimni “shunchaki matematikaga qobiliyatsiz” deb hisoblardim. Keyin yettinchi sinfda bizga yangi o‘qituvchi — Abdullayev domla keldi.
Mr Abdullaev was different from other teachers. He never shouted, and he never laughed at wrong answers. Instead, he said, “Good! A mistake shows us where to look.” He used games, puzzles and examples from real life: football scores, shopping and cooking. Suddenly, maths was interesting.
Abdullayev domla boshqa o‘qituvchilardan farq qilardi. U hech qachon baqirmasdi va noto‘g‘ri javoblar ustidan kulmasdi. Buning o‘rniga: “Yaxshi! Xato bizga qayerga qarash kerakligini ko‘rsatadi”, derdi. U o‘yinlar, boshqotirmalar va hayotdan misollar ishlatardi: futbol hisoblari, xarid va ovqat pishirish. To‘satdan matematika qiziqarli bo‘lib qoldi.
Once, after a test, he asked me to stay after class. I thought I was in trouble. But he said, “You are better at this than you think. You just need to believe it.” He gave me extra problems to take home, and every week he checked them with me.
Bir marta testdan keyin u mendan darsdan keyin qolishni so‘radi. Men muammoga tushdim deb o‘yladim. Lekin u: “Sen bu fanni o‘ylaganingdan yaxshiroq bilasan. Faqat bunga ishonishing kerak”, dedi. U menga uyga qo‘shimcha masalalar berdi va har hafta ularni men bilan tekshirdi.
By the end of the year, I had the best marks in my class. Today, I am an engineer, and I use maths every day. I often think about Mr Abdullaev. He didn’t only teach me maths; he taught me to believe in myself.
Yil oxiriga kelib sinfimda eng yaxshi baholar menda edi. Bugun men muhandisman va har kuni matematikadan foydalanaman. Abdullayev domlani tez-tez eslayman. U menga faqat matematika emas, o‘zimga ishonishni ham o‘rgatdi.
Tushundingizmi?
