Beneath the floor of a forest lies a dense web of fungal threads, known as mycorrhizal networks, which connect the roots of neighbouring trees. The fungi supply trees with water and minerals; in return, they receive sugars produced by photosynthesis. This partnership is ancient and, for most plants, essential.
O‘rmon tagida mikoriza tarmoqlari deb ataluvchi qo‘shni daraxtlar ildizlarini bog‘lovchi zich zamburug‘ iplari to‘ri yotadi. Zamburug‘lar daraxtlarni suv va minerallar bilan ta’minlaydi; evaziga ular fotosintez natijasida hosil bo‘lgan shakarlarni oladi. Bu hamkorlik qadimiy va ko‘pchilik o‘simliklar uchun hayotiy zarur.
In the 1990s, the forest ecologist Suzanne Simard reported that carbon could pass between trees through these networks, and later work suggested that large “mother trees” might preferentially support their own seedlings. The idea captured the public imagination; popular books described a “wood wide web” through which trees share resources, warn one another of insect attacks and even nurture their young.
1990-yillarda o‘rmon ekologi Suzanna Simard karbon bu tarmoqlar orqali daraxtlar o‘rtasida o‘tishi mumkinligini ma’lum qilgan, keyingi ishlar esa katta “ona daraxtlar” o‘z ko‘chatlarini afzal ko‘rib qo‘llab-quvvatlashi mumkinligini taxmin qilgan. G‘oya jamoatchilik tasavvurini o‘ziga tortdi; ommabop kitoblar daraxtlar resurslarni baham ko‘radigan, bir-birini hasharotlar hujumidan ogohlantiradigan va hatto yoshlarini parvarish qiladigan “o‘rmon global tarmog‘i”ni tasvirlagan.
Recently, however, a number of scientists have urged caution. A 2023 review of the field concluded that several widely repeated claims rest on limited or ambiguous evidence. Few field studies have demonstrated that resources move through fungal networks in quantities that matter for tree survival, and the notion that trees deliberately favour their kin remains largely unproven.
Daraxtlarning yashab qolishi uchun ahamiyatli miqdorda resurslar zamburug‘ tarmoqlari orqali o‘tishini ko‘rsatgan dala tadqiqotlari kam, daraxtlar ataylab qarindoshlarini afzal ko‘radi degan tushuncha esa asosan isbotlanmagan.
The controversy illustrates a broader tension between science and storytelling. Metaphors such as “communication” and “mothering” make research accessible and inspire public concern for forests, which is valuable. But when appealing narratives run ahead of the data, they risk distorting both public understanding and conservation policy.
Bu bahs fan va hikoyachilik o‘rtasidagi kengroq ziddiyatni ko‘rsatadi. “Muloqot” va “onalik” kabi metaforalar tadqiqotlarni tushunarli qiladi va o‘rmonlarga jamoatchilik qiziqishini uyg‘otadi, bu qimmatli. Lekin jozibali hikoyalar ma’lumotlardan oldinga o‘tib ketsa, ular ham jamoatchilik tushunchasini, ham tabiatni muhofaza qilish siyosatini buzib ko‘rsatish xavfini tug‘diradi.
None of this means that forests are merely collections of competing individuals. Ecologists agree that trees interact in complex ways: through shade, through the chemistry of fallen leaves, and through shared fungal partners that undoubtedly influence which seedlings thrive. The disagreement concerns the scale, direction and purpose of these interactions, not their existence.
Bularning hech biri o‘rmonlar shunchaki raqobatlashuvchi alohida daraxtlar to‘plami degani emas. Ekologlar daraxtlar murakkab yo‘llar bilan o‘zaro ta’sirlashishiga qo‘shiladi: soya orqali, to‘kilgan barglar kimyosi orqali va qaysi ko‘chatlar yaxshi o‘sishiga shubhasiz ta’sir qiladigan umumiy zamburug‘ hamkorlari orqali. Kelishmovchilik bu o‘zaro ta’sirlarning mavjudligi haqida emas, balki ularning ko‘lami, yo‘nalishi va maqsadi haqida.
For forest managers, the debate has practical consequences. If mature trees genuinely nurture surrounding seedlings, then logging practices that remove the largest trees could undermine regeneration. Some foresters now leave clusters of old trees standing as a precaution, a policy that may be wise regardless of how the scientific argument is eventually resolved.
O‘rmon xo‘jaligi mutaxassislari uchun bu bahs amaliy oqibatlarga ega. Agar yetuk daraxtlar atrofdagi ko‘chatlarni haqiqatan parvarish qilsa, eng katta daraxtlarni kesib tashlaydigan kesish amaliyotlari o‘rmonning tiklanishiga putur yetkazishi mumkin. Ba’zi o‘rmonchilar endi ehtiyot chorasi sifatida qari daraxtlar to‘dalarini qoldirishadi — ilmiy bahs oxir-oqibat qanday hal bo‘lishidan qat’i nazar, bu oqilona siyosat bo‘lishi mumkin.
