There was a little boy crying at the bus stop. He was about five years old, and he was holding a red balloon.
I sat down next to him and asked what was wrong. “I can’t find my mum,” he said. “She was buying ice cream, and then she disappeared.”
I held his hand and we walked slowly back towards the ice cream shop, asking everyone we passed. A police officer kindly offered to help us too.
Finally, we saw a woman running towards us, shouting his name. She hugged him tightly and thanked me again and again. I felt proud for the rest of the day.
