The Best Soup in the World
I’ve eaten in some expensive restaurants, but the meal I’ll never forget cost almost nothing.
Last winter, my friends and I were hiking in the mountains when a sudden snowstorm forced us to stop. We knocked on the door of a small shepherd’s house, cold, wet and slightly scared.
The shepherd’s wife invited us in without a second thought. She sat us by the fire and served bowls of hot lamb soup with homemade bread. It was simple food, but it tasted absolutely incredible after hours in the snow.
What made the meal so memorable was the kindness of complete strangers. They refused to accept any money, and we spent the evening laughing, telling stories and drinking tea.
Since then, I’ve realised that the best meals aren’t about the food — they’re about the people you share them with.
