IELTS Task 2: Choosing a University Subject
IELTS 2-topshiriq: fan tanlash
Some people think that students should choose university subjects that will help them get a good job. Others believe that students should study subjects they are interested in.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Write at least 250 words.
IELTS Writing Task 2 — umumiy ballning uchdan ikki qismini beradi. Savol turini aniqlang (fikr, ikki tomon, afzallik-kamchilik, muammo-yechim yoki ikki savolli) va savolning har bir qismiga javob bering. Pozitsiya kirishda ham, xulosada ham bir xil bo‘lsin.
- discuss the view that students should choose useful subjects — foydali fan tanlash kerak degan fikrni muhokama qiling
- discuss the view that students should follow their interests — qiziqish bo‘yicha tanlash kerak degan fikrni muhokama qiling
- give your own opinion — o‘z fikringizni bildiring
Imtihon strategiyasi
- Vaqtni bo‘ling: 5 daqiqa reja, 30 daqiqa yozish, 5 daqiqa tekshirish.
- Har bir asosiy abzas: markaziy gap → izoh → misol yoki natija.
- Savolning HAR BIR qismiga javob bering — ikki savolli topshiriqda ikkala savolga ham.
- 250 so‘zdan kam bo‘lsa ball kamaytiriladi; 270–320 so‘z eng qulay.
Namuna javob
Ikkala fikr adolatli va chuqur, o‘z pozitsiyasi nozik va misol bilan asoslangan, abzaslar izchil. Namuna hajmi: 281 so‘z.

Choosing a university course is one of the most important decisions a young person makes. While some argue that employability should be the main consideration, others believe that personal interest matters more. In my view, the best choice combines both.
-
Those who favour practical subjects point out that university education is expensive and that graduates need to repay loans and support themselves. Degrees in fields such as engineering, medicine or computer science generally lead to stable, well-paid careers, whereas graduates in some humanities subjects may struggle to find relevant employment. From this perspective, choosing a course purely out of interest can seem like a costly luxury. Parents who pay for their children’s education often share this view.
-
On the other hand, supporters of following one’s interests argue that motivation is the key to success. A student who is passionate about history is likely to work harder and achieve better results than one who reluctantly studies accounting. Moreover, the job market changes so quickly that it is almost impossible to predict which skills will be valuable in ten years’ time. A degree that seems practical today may lead to a job that disappears tomorrow, whereas the ability to think critically and communicate well remains valuable in any career.
-
Personally, I believe students should start with their interests but think carefully about how to apply them. For instance, someone who loves languages could combine them with business or law, opening up a wide range of career paths.
-
In conclusion, although employability is an important factor, genuine interest leads to greater commitment and success. The wisest students are those who find a way to connect their passions with the needs of the job market.
