Dear residents of Building 14, Yunusabad District, the residents’ committee is pleased to inform you that major repairs to our building will begin on Monday, 3 March, and are expected to finish by the end of June. The work is being paid for partly by the city council’s housing programme and partly from the building’s repair fund, to which all residents contribute monthly.

The repairs will include the following: replacing the roof, which has been leaking for several years; painting the outside walls; installing new windows in the stairwells; and replacing the old lift with a modern one. In addition, the playground in the courtyard will be rebuilt with new equipment and a soft safety surface.

Please be aware that the work will cause some disturbance. Building work will take place from Monday to Saturday, between 8 am and 6 pm. There will be no work on Sundays or public holidays. The noisiest work, on the roof, will take place during the first four weeks. We apologise in advance for the noise and dust, and we ask for your patience.

The lift will be out of service from 14 April to 23 May while the new one is installed. We understand that this will be very difficult for some residents, especially older people, families with small children and anyone with health problems. Volunteers from the building have offered to help carry shopping for those who need it. If you would like help, please write your name and flat number on the list in the entrance hall.

For safety reasons, the playground will be closed for the whole period of the work. Please make sure that children do not play near the building site, which will be surrounded by a fence. Cars must not be parked in front of the main entrance between 8 am and 6 pm, as this space is needed for delivery lorries. Cars parked there will be moved at the owner’s expense.

Workers will need to enter some flats to replace pipes on the top two floors. If you live on the eighth or ninth floor, the building company will contact you to arrange a convenient time. Workers will always carry identity cards. Please do not let anyone into your flat without checking their card. If you are unsure, call the site manager.

A meeting for all residents will be held in the courtyard on Saturday, 22 February, at 11 am, where the site manager, Mr Ergashev, will explain the plans and answer questions. If you cannot attend, you can send questions to the committee by email or leave a note in the committee’s post box. Thank you for your understanding. Together, we will make our building a safer and more comfortable home.
