When I was nineteen, I got my first real job as a waiter in a busy restaurant. I worked six evenings a week, and at the end of the month, I received my first salary: two million sum. I had never had so much money in my hands before!
O‘n to‘qqiz yoshimda gavjum restoranda ofitsiant bo‘lib birinchi haqiqiy ishimga kirdim. Haftasiga olti kech ishlardim va oy oxirida birinchi maoshimni oldim: ikki million so‘m. Ilgari qo‘limda hech qachon bunchalik ko‘p pul bo‘lmagan edi!
I had many plans. I wanted to buy new headphones, trainers and a jacket. My friends said, “Let’s celebrate! Let’s go to an expensive restaurant!” But first, I remembered a tradition in our family: with your first salary, you must buy a present for your parents.
Rejalarim ko‘p edi. Yangi quloqchin, krossovka va kurtka sotib olmoqchi edim. Do‘stlarim: “Keling, nishonlaymiz! Qimmat restoranga boraylik!” deyishdi. Lekin avval oilamizdagi bir an’anani esladim: birinchi maoshingga ota-onangga sovg‘a olishing kerak.
I bought a warm scarf for my mother and a good watch for my father. When I gave them the presents, my mother cried and my father hugged me for a long time. He said he still remembered what he had bought for his own parents forty years ago: a radio.
Onamga issiq sharf, otamga esa yaxshi soat sotib oldim. Ularga sovg‘alarni berganimda, onam yig‘lab yubordi, otam esa meni uzoq quchoqladi. U qirq yil oldin o‘z ota-onasiga nima olganini hamon eslashini aytdi: radio.
With the rest of the money, I bought the headphones and put some in the bank. I didn’t buy the jacket that month, but I didn’t mind. I learned that money feels different when you work hard for it, and that the best things you buy are sometimes for other people.
Qolgan pulga quloqchin oldim va bir qismini bankka qo‘ydim. O‘sha oy kurtka olmadim, lekin qarshi emas edim. Mehnat qilib topgan pulingiz boshqacha tuyulishini va ba’zan sotib olgan eng yaxshi narsalaringiz boshqalar uchun bo‘lishini angladim.
