The Green Garden opened last month in the city centre, and it is already difficult to get a table at the weekend. It is a vegetarian restaurant, but even meat lovers will find something they enjoy.

We started with a lentil soup, which was rich and full of flavour. For the main course, I had a mushroom plov. I was not sure about plov without meat, but it was surprisingly good. My friend’s vegetable burger was less successful: it was dry and a little cold.

The service was friendly but slow. We waited almost forty minutes for our main courses, although the restaurant was only half full.

Prices are reasonable: a meal for two with drinks cost about 250,000 sum. Overall, The Green Garden is a welcome addition to the city. Go for the soup and the plov, and be patient. Rating: 4 out of 5.

The interior deserves a special mention. The walls are covered with climbing plants, and there are small herb gardens on every window. The tables are made from old wood, and the lighting is soft and warm. It feels more like a friend’s garden than a restaurant.

For dessert, we shared a carrot cake that was moist, not too sweet and topped with walnuts. The drinks menu is short but interesting: try the homemade lemonade with mint and ginger. There is no alcohol on the menu, which fits the restaurant’s healthy image.
