My husband and I stayed at The Old Caravanserai Guesthouse in Bukhara for four nights in October. We chose it because of its location and its excellent reviews online, and for the most part, it lived up to our expectations. However, there were a few things that potential guests should know before they book.
Erim bilan oktyabr oyida Buxorodagi “Eski karvonsaroy” mehmonxonasida to‘rt kecha qoldik. Biz uni joylashuvi va internetdagi a’lo sharhlari uchun tanladik va asosan u kutganlarimizni oqladi. Biroq bron qilishdan oldin bo‘lajak mehmonlar bilishi kerak bo‘lgan bir nechta narsa bor.
First, the positives. The location is perfect. The guesthouse is in a quiet lane in the old city, just a five-minute walk from Lyabi-Hauz, the famous square with a pool in the middle. Most of the main sights, including the Kalyan Minaret and the Ark fortress, are within walking distance, so we didn’t need to take a single taxi during our stay.
Avval ijobiy tomonlari. Joylashuvi mukammal. Mehmonxona eski shahardagi tinch tor ko‘chada, o‘rtasida hovuzi bo‘lgan mashhur Labi hovuz maydonidan atigi besh daqiqalik piyoda masofada joylashgan. Asosiy diqqatga sazovor joylarning aksariyati, jumladan Minorai Kalon va Ark qal’asi piyoda boriladigan masofada, shuning uchun qolganimiz davomida bitta ham taksiga o‘tirmadik.
The building itself is beautiful. It is a traditional house built around a courtyard, which is over two hundred years old. The owners have restored it carefully, keeping the original wooden doors and painted ceilings. In the evenings, we loved sitting in the courtyard under the grapevines, drinking tea and listening to the quiet sounds of the city.
Binoning o‘zi juda chiroyli. Bu hovli atrofida qurilgan an’anaviy uy bo‘lib, uning yoshi ikki yuz yildan oshgan. Egalari uni ehtiyotkorlik bilan ta’mirlab, asl yog‘och eshiklar va bezakli shiftlarni saqlab qolishgan. Kechqurunlari tok ostidagi hovlida o‘tirib, choy ichib, shaharning sokin ovozlarini tinglashni juda yoqtirardik.
But the best thing about the guesthouse was the breakfast. Every morning, the owner’s mother cooked something different: fresh bread from the clay oven, homemade apricot jam, eggs, cheese, fruit and, on the last day, a delicious plate of hot pumpkin samsa. It was so generous that we usually didn’t need lunch.
Lekin mehmonxonaning eng yaxshi tomoni nonushta edi. Har kuni ertalab egasining onasi turli narsa tayyorlardi: tandirdan uzilgan yangi non, uyda tayyorlangan o‘rik murabbosi, tuxum, pishloq, meva va oxirgi kuni bir tarelka mazali issiq qovoq somsa. U shunchalik saxiy ediki, odatda bizga tushlik kerak bo‘lmasdi.
The staff were also wonderful. The owner’s son, Farhod, speaks excellent English and gave us lots of useful advice. He recommended a small restaurant where we had the best plov of our trip, and he even arranged for us to visit a local family who make traditional silk carpets. That visit was one of the highlights of our holiday.
Xodimlar ham ajoyib edi. Egasining o‘g‘li Farhod ingliz tilida a’lo darajada gapiradi va bizga ko‘plab foydali maslahatlar berdi. U safarimizdagi eng zo‘r oshni yegan kichik restoranni tavsiya qildi va hatto an’anaviy ipak gilamlar to‘qiydigan mahalliy oilaga tashrif buyurishimizni ham uyushtirdi. O‘sha tashrif ta’tilimizning eng yorqin lahzalaridan biri bo‘ldi.
Now for the negatives. Our room was quite small, and the bathroom was very small indeed. There was hot water, but it took several minutes to arrive, and the shower was weak. The walls are thin, too, so we could hear the guests in the next room talking late at night. If you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs.
Endi salbiy tomonlari. Xonamiz ancha kichik, hammom esa haqiqatan ham juda kichkina edi. Issiq suv bor edi, lekin u kelishiga bir necha daqiqa ketardi va dush suvi kuchsiz edi. Devorlar ham yupqa, shuning uchun qo‘shni xonadagi mehmonlarning kechasi gaplashganini eshitardik. Agar sezgir uxlaydigan bo‘lsangiz, quloq tiqinlarini olib keling.
Also, the Wi-Fi only really worked in the courtyard, not in the rooms. For us, this wasn’t a problem, since we were on holiday, but business travellers might find it frustrating. Overall, though, we had a wonderful time. The guesthouse has real character, and the warm welcome made us feel like part of the family. I would give it four out of five, and we would definitely stay there again.
Shuningdek, Wi-Fi faqat hovlida yaxshi ishlardi, xonalarda emas. Biz ta’tilda bo‘lganimiz uchun bu muammo emas edi, lekin ish safaridagilar uchun bu asabiylashtiruvchi bo‘lishi mumkin. Umuman olganda esa ajoyib vaqt o‘tkazdik. Mehmonxonaning haqiqiy o‘ziga xosligi bor va iliq kutib olish bizni oilaning bir qismidek his qildirdi. Men unga beshdan to‘rt baho beraman va albatta u yerda yana qolardik.
