Aziz is twelve years old, and he lives in a tall building in the centre of Tashkent. Last summer, his parents had to work a lot, so they sent him to his grandfather’s village near Namangan for a whole month. At first, Aziz was not happy at all. “There’s no cinema, no shopping centre and the internet is terrible,” he said to his mother on the phone.
Aziz o‘n ikki yoshda va u Toshkent markazidagi baland binoda yashaydi. O‘tgan yozda ota-onasi ko‘p ishlashlari kerak edi, shuning uchun uni butun bir oyga Namangan yaqinidagi bobosining qishlog‘iga jo‘natishdi. Avvaliga Aziz umuman xursand emas edi. “Bu yerda kinoteatr ham, savdo markazi ham yo‘q, internet esa dahshatli”, dedi u onasiga telefonda.
His grandfather, Bobur ota, was seventy-five but very strong. He got up every day at five o’clock, when it was still dark. On the first morning, he woke Aziz up too. “Come on, the cow is waiting for us,” he said. Aziz was very sleepy, but he followed his grandfather to the barn. There, he learned how to milk a cow. It was much harder than it looked!
Uning bobosi Bobur ota yetmish besh yoshda, lekin juda baquvvat edi. U har kuni soat beshda, hali qorong‘i paytda turardi. Birinchi kuni ertalab u Azizni ham uyg‘otdi. “Qani, sigir bizni kutyapti”, dedi u. Azizning juda uyqusi kelardi, lekin bobosining ortidan molxonaga bordi. U yerda sigir sog‘ishni o‘rgandi. Bu ko‘ringanidan ancha qiyin edi!
Every day, there was a lot of work to do. Aziz fed the chickens, collected the eggs and helped his grandmother in the vegetable garden. They grew tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and peppers. In the afternoon, when it was too hot to work, Aziz and his grandfather sat under a big apricot tree and drank green tea. His grandfather told him stories about his own childhood.
Har kuni qilinadigan ish ko‘p edi. Aziz tovuqlarga don berar, tuxum yig‘ar va buvisiga sabzavot bog‘ida yordam berardi. Ular pomidor, bodring, piyoz va qalampir yetishtirishardi. Tushdan keyin, ishlash uchun juda issiq bo‘lganda, Aziz va bobosi katta o‘rik daraxti ostida o‘tirib, ko‘k choy ichishardi. Bobosi unga o‘z bolaligi haqida hikoyalar so‘zlab berardi.
After a week, Aziz made friends with some boys from the village. In the evenings, they played football in a field near the river or swam in the cold water. One boy, Sardor, taught Aziz how to catch fish with a simple stick and a piece of string. Aziz caught his first fish on a Tuesday, and his grandmother cooked it for dinner. He felt very proud.
Bir haftadan keyin Aziz qishloqdagi bir nechta bolalar bilan do‘stlashdi. Kechqurunlari ular daryo yaqinidagi dalada futbol o‘ynashar yoki sovuq suvda suzishardi. Sardor ismli bir bola Azizga oddiy tayoq va bir bo‘lak ip bilan baliq tutishni o‘rgatdi. Aziz birinchi balig‘ini seshanba kuni tutdi va buvisi uni kechki ovqatga pishirdi. U o‘zidan juda faxrlandi.
Aziz also noticed something strange: he didn’t miss his phone. At night, the sky was full of stars. In Tashkent, he could only see a few, but in the village there were thousands. His grandfather showed him the shapes of the stars and told him their names. Aziz went to bed early every night, and he slept better than ever before.
Aziz yana bir g‘alati narsani payqadi: u telefonini sog‘inmasdi. Kechasi osmon yulduzlarga to‘la edi. Toshkentda u faqat bir nechtasini ko‘ra olardi, lekin qishloqda minglab yulduz bor edi. Bobosi unga yulduzlarning shakllarini ko‘rsatib, nomlarini aytib berdi. Aziz har kecha erta uxlashga yotar va hech qachon bunchalik yaxshi uxlamagan edi.
When his father came to take him home, Aziz was sad to leave. He hugged his grandparents and promised to come back next summer. In the car, his father asked, “So, was it boring?” Aziz laughed. “No, Dad. It was the best summer of my life. And I can milk a cow now!”
Otasi uni uyga olib ketish uchun kelganda, Aziz ketishdan xafa bo‘ldi. U bobosi va buvisini quchoqlab, keyingi yozda yana kelishga va’da berdi. Mashinada otasi so‘radi: “Xo‘sh, zerikarli bo‘ldimi?” Aziz kuldi. “Yo‘q, dada. Bu hayotimdagi eng yaxshi yoz bo‘ldi. Endi men sigir sog‘ishni ham bilaman!”
