Few rulers in history have left behind as honest an account of their own lives as Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur. Born in 1483 in Andijan, in the Fergana Valley, he was a direct descendant of Amir Temur on his father’s side and of Genghis Khan on his mother’s. These famous ancestors gave him great ambitions, but very few resources, and his early life was a long struggle for survival.
Tarixda o‘z hayoti haqida Zahiriddin Muhammad Boburdek samimiy hikoya qoldirgan hukmdorlar juda kam. 1483-yilda Farg‘ona vodiysidagi Andijonda tug‘ilgan Bobur ota tomondan Amir Temurning, ona tomondan esa Chingizxonning bevosita avlodi edi. Bu mashhur ajdodlar unga katta orzular berdi, lekin juda kam imkoniyat berdi va uning ilk hayoti omon qolish uchun uzoq kurash bo‘ldi.
When his father died in an accident in 1494, Babur became ruler of Fergana at the age of only eleven. He was surrounded by ambitious relatives and powerful neighbours, and his position was never secure. His great dream was to capture Samarkand, the former capital of Temur’s empire. He succeeded twice, but each time he lost the city within months. After the second defeat, he found himself wandering the mountains with only a few hundred loyal followers.
1494-yilda otasi baxtsiz hodisada vafot etgach, Bobur atigi o‘n bir yoshida Farg‘ona hukmdori bo‘ldi. Uni shuhratparast qarindoshlar va kuchli qo‘shnilar o‘rab olgan edi va uning mavqei hech qachon mustahkam bo‘lmagan. Uning katta orzusi Temur saltanatining sobiq poytaxti Samarqandni egallash edi. U ikki marta muvaffaqiyatga erishdi, lekin har safar shaharni bir necha oy ichida qo‘ldan boy berdi. Ikkinchi mag‘lubiyatdan keyin u atigi bir necha yuz sodiq tarafdori bilan tog‘larda sarson kezib qoldi.
Babur’s fortunes changed in 1504, when he captured Kabul. From there he gradually built up his strength, and he began to look towards the rich lands of northern India. In 1526, at the Battle of Panipat, his army of around twelve thousand men defeated the much larger forces of Ibrahim Lodi, the Sultan of Delhi. Babur’s use of field guns and his clever battle formations were decisive. This victory marked the beginning of the dynasty that Europeans would later call the Mughal Empire.
Boburning omadi 1504-yilda Kobulni egallaganida o‘zgardi. U yerdan u asta-sekin kuchini to‘pladi va Shimoliy Hindistonning boy yerlariga ko‘z tika boshladi. 1526-yilda Panipat jangida uning taxminan o‘n ikki ming kishilik qo‘shini Dehli sultoni Ibrohim Lo‘diyning ancha katta kuchlarini tor-mor etdi. Boburning dala to‘plaridan foydalanishi va mohirona jang saflari hal qiluvchi bo‘ldi. Bu g‘alaba keyinchalik yevropaliklar Buyuk Mo‘g‘ullar imperiyasi deb atagan sulolaning boshlanishini belgiladi.
Yet Babur is remembered not only as a conqueror but also as a writer. His memoir, the “Baburnama”, written in Chagatai Turkic, is considered one of the masterpieces of world autobiography. In it, he describes battles and politics, but also the plants, animals, rivers and people of the places he visited. He writes with remarkable frankness about his own mistakes, his loneliness and even his struggles with drinking, which he eventually gave up.
Biroq Bobur faqat jahongir sifatida emas, balki yozuvchi sifatida ham esda qolgan. Uning chig‘atoy turkiysida yozilgan “Boburnoma” xotiralari jahon avtobiografiyasining durdonalaridan biri hisoblanadi. Unda u janglar va siyosatni, shuningdek, o‘zi borgan joylarning o‘simliklari, hayvonlari, daryolari va odamlarini tasvirlaydi. U o‘z xatolari, yolg‘izligi va hatto oxir-oqibat tashlab yuborgan ichkilikka moyilligi haqida ham hayratlanarli ochiqlik bilan yozadi.
The book also reveals a man who never stopped missing his homeland. In India he complained about the heat, the dust and the absence of good melons and running water. He created gardens in the Persian style, with channels and fountains, partly to recreate the landscapes of his youth. In one famous passage, he describes his emotion when he was brought a melon from Fergana.
Kitob, shuningdek, vatanini sog‘inishdan hech qachon to‘xtamagan insonni ochib beradi. Hindistonda u jazirama, chang va yaxshi qovunlar hamda oqar suvlar yo‘qligidan nolirdi. U qisman yoshligidagi manzaralarni qayta yaratish uchun ariqlar va favvoralar bilan fors uslubidagi bog‘lar barpo etdi. Mashhur parchalardan birida u Farg‘onadan qovun keltirishganda his qilgan hayajonini tasvirlaydi.
Babur was also a talented poet, and his collection of verses in Turkic is still read today. He died in Agra in 1530, aged just forty-seven, only four years after his great victory. According to his wishes, his body was later taken to Kabul and buried in a garden on a hillside.
Bobur iste’dodli shoir ham edi va uning turkiy tildagi she’rlar devoni hozir ham o‘qiladi. U buyuk g‘alabasidan atigi to‘rt yil o‘tib, 1530-yilda Agrada qirq yetti yoshida vafot etdi. Uning vasiyatiga ko‘ra, jasadi keyinchalik Kobulga olib borilib, tepalik yonbag‘ridagi bog‘ga dafn etilgan.
Today Babur is honoured in several countries. In Uzbekistan, Andijan has a large memorial park in his name, and the “Baburnama” is studied in schools. For historians, his memoir remains an invaluable source; for ordinary readers, it is a rare chance to hear the voice of a medieval king speaking openly about his hopes and failures.
Bugun Bobur bir necha mamlakatda ulug‘lanadi. O‘zbekistonda Andijonda uning nomidagi katta yodgorlik bog‘i bor va “Boburnoma” maktablarda o‘rganiladi. Tarixchilar uchun uning xotiralari bebaho manba bo‘lib qolmoqda; oddiy o‘quvchilar uchun esa bu o‘rta asr podshohining umidlari va muvaffaqiyatsizliklari haqida ochiq gapirayotgan ovozini eshitish uchun noyob imkoniyatdir.
