Describe a change you have made to reduce waste.
You should say:
- what the change was
- when you made it
- what prompted it
and explain how effective you think the change has been.
Namuna javob
A change I made about two years ago was to cut down drastically on food waste at home. What prompted it was rather mundane: one weekend I cleared out my fridge and realised I was throwing away an entire carrier bag of food — wilted vegetables, half-used sauces, bread that had gone mouldy. Out of curiosity, I estimated what it had cost, and the figure was genuinely embarrassing. So I introduced a few habits. I began planning meals for the week before shopping and writing a precise list, which sounds obvious but which I’d never done. I also started what I call a “use-it-up” meal every Thursday, where I cook only with whatever needs eating first, and I learned to freeze things — bread, herbs, cooked rice — before they spoiled. Finally, I started composting vegetable scraps in a small bin on my balcony, which feeds the plants there. In terms of effectiveness, I’d say it has been surprisingly successful on a personal level. I now throw away perhaps a fifth of what I used to, and my grocery bills have fallen noticeably. It also changed how I think about food; I’m more creative in the kitchen and more aware of the effort that goes into producing what I eat. However, I’m realistic about the bigger picture. Household waste is only one part of the problem — huge amounts of food are lost in transport, storage and supermarkets before it ever reaches consumers. So while individual habits matter, the most significant gains would come from changes in supply chains and retail practices.

-
Why is so much food wasted in wealthy countries?
Namuna javob
Largely because food is relatively cheap, so wasting it carries little financial pain. Strict cosmetic standards in supermarkets and confusing “best before” labels also play a significant role.
Sabablar.
-
Can the world produce enough food for a growing population?
Namuna javob
Technically, yes — we already produce enough calories. The problem is distribution, waste and access. That said, climate change may reduce yields in vulnerable regions, which makes the challenge more acute.
Muammoni qayta ta’riflash.
-
Should people eat less meat for environmental reasons?
Namuna javob
The evidence suggests that reducing meat consumption, particularly beef, would significantly lower emissions and water use. But persuasion and better alternatives are likely to work better than bans.
Dalil + usul.
-
Is it important for a country to produce its own food?
Namuna javob
A degree of self-sufficiency is wise for resilience, as recent supply shocks showed. But complete self-sufficiency is often inefficient; trade allows countries to grow what suits their climate.
Muvozanat.
