Describe an innovative product or idea that you think is clever.
You should say:
- what it is
- how you found out about it
- how it works
and explain why you think it is clever.
Namuna javob
An innovation I find genuinely ingenious is M-Pesa, the mobile money system launched in Kenya in 2007. I first read about it in a book on development economics a few years ago, and I was struck by how simple it was. Essentially, M-Pesa allows people to send, receive and store money using basic mobile phones — not smartphones, just ordinary phones with text messages. You deposit cash with a local agent, often a small shop owner, and the money appears as credit on your phone. You can then send it to anyone else by text, and they can withdraw it as cash from their own local agent. The cleverness lies in several things. Firstly, it worked with the infrastructure people already had. Most Kenyans didn’t have bank accounts, and banks had little presence in rural areas, but almost everyone had a phone and access to a corner shop. Rather than building expensive bank branches, it turned thousands of existing shops into financial outlets. Secondly, it solved a real, painful problem: migrant workers in cities had previously sent money home via bus drivers or relatives, which was slow and risky. And thirdly, its impact has been profound — studies suggest it lifted a significant percentage of Kenyan households out of poverty, particularly those headed by women, by making it easier to save and to cope with emergencies. What I find most instructive is that it wasn’t technologically sophisticated at all. Its genius was in understanding people’s actual lives, which is a lesson many tech companies, with their elaborate apps, could learn from.
Innovatsiya → mexanizm (sodda tushuntirish) → nega aqlli (mavjud infratuzilma, real muammo, ta’sir) → umumiy saboq.
3-qism: Muhokama
Band 7–8 uchun Part 3 da mavhum g‘oyalarni muhokama qilish, taxmin qilish, taqqoslash va nozik pozitsiya bildirish kutiladi.
-
Why do some countries produce more innovation than others?
Namuna javob
It tends to depend on a combination of factors: strong universities, access to capital, a legal system that protects ideas, and — crucially — a culture that tolerates failure. Where failing is stigmatised, people are understandably reluctant to take risks.
Omillar + madaniy.
-
Should governments support startups financially?
Namuna javob
Selectively, yes, particularly in early stages where private investors are cautious. But governments are often poor at picking winners, so it may be better to fund research and create favourable conditions than to back specific companies.
Nozik pozitsiya.
-
Is all innovation beneficial?
Namuna javob
Clearly not. Some innovations solve trivial problems for wealthy consumers, and others — like certain financial products — create systemic risks. Innovation should be judged by its consequences, not merely its novelty.
Tanqidiy.
-
How important is failure in the process of innovation?
Namuna javob
Essential, I’d say. Most successful products emerge from repeated failures that reveal what doesn’t work. The key is to fail cheaply and learn quickly.
Asosiy g‘oya.
