Namuna javob
A negotiation that taught me a great deal was with my landlord about two years ago, when he informed me that he intended to increase my rent by thirty percent. I’d lived in the flat for four years, always paid on time and kept it in excellent condition, so the increase felt both sudden and excessive. My initial instinct was to argue that it was unfair, but I realised that appealing to fairness alone was unlikely to persuade him. Instead, I prepared. I researched what similar flats in the area were renting for, and found that thirty percent would put my rent well above the local average. I also considered what he actually valued; he was elderly, lived in another city, and had told me before that the hassle of finding tenants stressed him. When we met, I started by acknowledging that prices had risen generally, which I think lowered his defences. Then I presented the market data calmly and pointed out the costs he’d face if I left — a month or two without rent, agency fees, and repairs. Finally, I offered something he valued: I’d sign a two-year contract and handle minor repairs myself. We eventually agreed on a twelve percent increase. What I learned was that effective negotiation is less about winning arguments than about understanding the other person’s interests. Preparation gave me confidence, and finding a solution that addressed his real worry — stability — was far more effective than complaining. It’s a lesson I’ve applied in professional negotiations ever since.
Vaziyat → instinkt va qayta o‘ylash → tayyorgarlik → strategiya (tan olish, dalil, qiymat taklifi) → natija → saboq: manfaatlarni tushunish.

-
What makes someone a good negotiator?
Namuna javob
Preparation, patience and empathy. The best negotiators listen more than they talk, because understanding what the other side needs is what makes creative solutions possible.
Sifatlar + mexanizm.
-
Is compromise always a good thing?
Namuna javob
Not always. Compromise is valuable in most practical disputes, but on matters of principle — human rights or safety, for example — compromising can mean accepting something fundamentally wrong.
Chegara.
-
Do cultural differences affect negotiation?
Namuna javob
Very much. Some cultures value directness and quick decisions, while others prioritise building relationships first. Misreading these norms can derail a negotiation entirely.
Madaniy tahlil.
-
Should negotiation skills be taught at school?
Namuna javob
I think so — not only for business, but for resolving everyday conflicts. Learning to see another person’s perspective is valuable in every area of life.
Kengroq foyda.
