Describe a traditional skill or craft from your country.
You should say:
- what it is
- who practises it
- how it is made or done
and explain whether you think it will survive in the future.
Namuna javob
A traditional craft I find fascinating is the ceramics of Rishtan, a town in the Fergana Valley that has been famous for pottery for roughly eight hundred years. Rishtan pottery is instantly recognisable for its intense turquoise and deep blue glaze, known locally as ishkor, which is made from the ash of desert plants rather than chemical dyes. The craft is practised mainly by family workshops, where knowledge is passed down through generations; many master potters are the sixth or seventh in their family to do this work. The process is remarkably labour-intensive. Local red clay is kneaded by hand, shaped on a wheel, dried slowly, and then decorated with intricate floral and geometric patterns using fine brushes, before being glazed and fired in a kiln — sometimes several times. A single large plate can take weeks. As for whether it will survive, I’m cautiously optimistic. On the one hand, the economics are difficult. Cheap factory-made ceramics are widely available, and many young people from craft families prefer more lucrative or modern careers. On the other hand, there are encouraging signs. International interest in handmade, authentic goods has grown significantly, and some workshops now sell online to customers in Europe and Japan. Tourism to the Fergana Valley is also increasing. I think the craft will survive, but probably in a transformed form — more as a premium, artistic product than as everyday tableware. The key will be whether younger generations can combine traditional techniques with modern business skills, so that the craft is valued not out of nostalgia, but because it offers something genuinely irreplaceable.
Hunar → kimlar → jarayon (aniq bosqichlar) → kelajak: ehtiyotkor optimizm (ikki tomon) → shartli xulosa.
3-qism: Muhokama
Band 7–8 uchun Part 3 da mavhum g‘oyalarni muhokama qilish, taxmin qilish, taqqoslash va nozik pozitsiya bildirish kutiladi.
-
Is it inevitable that traditions disappear as societies modernise?
Namuna javob
Not inevitable, but many will change. Traditions survive when they continue to serve a purpose or carry meaning; those that don’t tend to fade. Some, paradoxically, gain new life as symbols of identity in a globalised world.
Nozik + paradoks.
-
Should governments subsidise traditional crafts?
Namuna javob
To some extent, as part of cultural heritage — through training programmes, marketing support or tax relief. But long-term survival depends on genuine demand, so subsidies should help crafts become self-sustaining.
Shartli.
-
Can modern technology help preserve traditions?
Namuna javob
Definitely — digital archives, online marketplaces and video tutorials have revived interest in many crafts. Technology can extend a tradition’s reach rather than undermining it.
Ijobiy misol.
-
Do young people value tradition less than older generations?
Namuna javob
They often express it differently. Many young people are reinventing traditional music, dress or cuisine in contemporary forms, which suggests reinterpretation rather than rejection.
Qayta talqin.
