Do many tourists visit your town?
Namuna javob
Increasingly so — Tashkent was once just a transit point, but now people stay several days.
O‘zgarish.
-
Do you enjoy showing visitors around?
Namuna javob
Very much. Seeing my city through their eyes helps me notice things I take for granted.
Chuqur.

What kind of tourist are you?

Describe a tourist place you visited that you think is well managed.
You should say:
- where it is
- what you did there
- how it is managed
and explain why you think it is a good example for other places.
Namuna javob
A place I visited that struck me as exceptionally well managed is Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia, which I went to about three years ago. It’s a series of sixteen terraced lakes connected by waterfalls, all in shades of turquoise and green that look almost unreal. We spent a full day there, walking along wooden boardwalks that wind over and around the water, and taking an electric boat across the largest lake. What impressed me was how carefully the park balances access with protection. Firstly, there’s a strict daily limit on visitor numbers, and in high season you have to book a time slot in advance online, which prevents the overcrowding I’ve seen elsewhere. Secondly, the infrastructure is designed to minimise impact: the boardwalks keep people off the fragile mineral formations, swimming is completely banned, and the boats and buses inside the park are electric. Thirdly, ticket prices are noticeably higher in summer than in winter, which spreads visits more evenly across the year and funds conservation. The rangers were also very visible, politely reminding people to stay on the paths. I think it’s a good model because it shows that you don’t have to choose between tourism and conservation; managed properly, tourism actually pays for protection. Many popular sites, including some in Uzbekistan, are still at the stage of welcoming as many visitors as possible. Plitvice demonstrates that limiting numbers, while unpopular at first, ultimately protects both the place and the visitor experience.

-
Does tourism do more harm than good?
Namuna javob
It depends heavily on how it’s managed. Well-regulated tourism can fund conservation, preserve crafts and create jobs. Unregulated mass tourism, by contrast, can hollow out communities and damage the very attractions people come to see.
Shartli javob.
-
Should popular tourist destinations limit visitor numbers?
Namuna javob
In many cases, yes. It’s an unpopular measure, but caps and booking systems protect fragile sites and improve the experience for those who do visit.
Pozitsiya.
-
How can local communities benefit more from tourism?
Namuna javob
By ensuring that revenue stays local — encouraging locally owned accommodation and businesses rather than international chains, and involving residents in planning decisions.
Iqtisodiy yechim.
-
Will people travel less in the future because of climate concerns?
Namuna javob
Some will, particularly younger, environmentally conscious travellers who may choose trains or fewer, longer trips. But overall demand will probably keep rising as incomes grow in Asia and Africa.
Nozik bashorat.
