The vase fell to the floor and broke into a thousand pieces. It was my mother’s favourite — a present from her grandmother.
My heart was beating fast. At first, I wanted to hide the pieces and say nothing. I even thought about blaming the cat!
But then I imagined my mother’s face, and I knew that lying would be worse. When she came home, I told her the truth and said I was very sorry.
She was sad, but she hugged me. “I’m glad you told me,” she said. “A vase can be replaced, but trust can’t.” I’ve never forgotten those words.
