Dear Sarah,
It was lovely to hear that you’re finally coming to Samarkand! I’m sure you’ll fall in love with the city just like I did.
I’d definitely recommend staying at the Bibi Khanum Hotel. It’s a small family-run place right next to the Registan, so you’ll be able to walk to all the main sights. The rooms are simple but spotless, and the owners are incredibly friendly. It’s also very reasonably priced — a double room costs about forty dollars a night. Best of all, breakfast is served on a rooftop terrace with an amazing view of the old city.
While you’re there, make sure you visit the Registan at night, when it’s beautifully lit up. You should also try the famous Samarkand bread at Siab Bazaar — it’s the best in the country! If you have time, a day trip to Shahrisabz is well worth it too.
Let me know if you need anything else, and have a fantastic trip!
Love,
Malika
