The line graph compares the number of people who visited a history museum, a science museum and an art gallery in one city over a twenty-year period from 2000.
Overall, the Science Museum saw a dramatic rise in popularity and became the most visited attraction, while the History Museum experienced a steady decline. Visitor numbers at the Art Gallery remained fairly stable throughout.
In 2000, the History Museum was by far the most popular, attracting 420,000 visitors, compared with 200,000 at the Art Gallery and 150,000 at the Science Museum. Over the following two decades, however, attendance at the History Museum fell gradually to 310,000.
The Science Museum, by contrast, grew rapidly. It overtook the History Museum in around 2013 and reached 560,000 visitors in 2020, almost four times its original figure. The Art Gallery, meanwhile, fluctuated only slightly, between 190,000 and 220,000.
