IELTS Task 2: An Ageing Population
IELTS 2-topshiriq: aholining qarishi
In many countries, the proportion of older people is steadily increasing.
What problems does this cause for individuals and society? What solutions can you suggest?
Write at least 250 words.
IELTS Writing Task 2 — umumiy ballning uchdan ikki qismini beradi. Savol turini aniqlang (fikr, ikki tomon, afzallik-kamchilik, muammo-yechim yoki ikki savolli) va savolning har bir qismiga javob bering. Pozitsiya kirishda ham, xulosada ham bir xil bo‘lsin.
- describe the problems — muammolarni tasvirlang
- suggest solutions — yechimlar taklif qiling
- give a clear position — aniq pozitsiya bildiring
Imtihon strategiyasi
- Vaqtni bo‘ling: 5 daqiqa reja, 30 daqiqa yozish, 5 daqiqa tekshirish.
- Har bir asosiy abzas: markaziy gap → izoh → misol yoki natija.
- Savolning HAR BIR qismiga javob bering — ikki savolli topshiriqda ikkala savolga ham.
- 250 so‘zdan kam bo‘lsa ball kamaytiriladi; 270–320 so‘z eng qulay.
Namuna javob
Muammolar ikki darajada (jamiyat va shaxs) ko‘rilgan, yechimlar ularga mos, lug‘at akademik (demographic shift, labour market). Namuna hajmi: 262 so‘z.

Thanks to better healthcare and falling birth rates, many societies now have a rapidly growing number of elderly citizens. This demographic shift creates significant challenges, but they can be managed with careful planning.
-
The most serious problem is economic. As the number of retired people rises and the working-age population shrinks, governments must pay more in pensions while collecting less in taxes. Healthcare systems also come under pressure, because older people are more likely to need long-term treatment. For individuals, the consequences can be equally difficult: many elderly people live alone, and families often struggle to balance caring for ageing parents with their own jobs and children. Loneliness among the elderly is also a growing concern, as it is closely linked to depression and poor health.
-
One practical solution is to raise the retirement age gradually, reflecting the fact that people now live longer and healthier lives. Encouraging older employees to work part-time would also allow them to pass on their experience while remaining active. In addition, governments could attract young workers from abroad to fill gaps in the labour market. Finally, investment in community care, such as day centres and home visits, would reduce loneliness and ease the burden on families. Technology can help too: simple devices that allow older people to video-call relatives or contact a doctor can make independent living safer for longer.
-
In conclusion, an ageing population puts pressure on public finances and families alike. In my view, flexible retirement, sensible immigration and better community care offer the most realistic way to turn this challenge into an opportunity.
