IELTS Task 2: Disappearing Traditional Skills
IELTS 2-topshiriq: yo‘qolayotgan an’anaviy hunarlar
In many countries, traditional skills and crafts, such as weaving, woodcarving and pottery, are disappearing.
Why is this happening? Is this a problem?
Write at least 250 words.
IELTS Writing Task 2 — umumiy ballning uchdan ikki qismini beradi. Savol turini aniqlang (fikr, ikki tomon, afzallik-kamchilik, muammo-yechim yoki ikki savolli) va savolning har bir qismiga javob bering. Pozitsiya kirishda ham, xulosada ham bir xil bo‘lsin.
- explain why it is happening — nega bunday bo‘layotganini tushuntiring
- say whether it is a problem — bu muammomi, ayting
- support your view with examples — fikringizni misollar bilan asoslang
Imtihon strategiyasi
- Vaqtni bo‘ling: 5 daqiqa reja, 30 daqiqa yozish, 5 daqiqa tekshirish.
- Har bir asosiy abzas: markaziy gap → izoh → misol yoki natija.
- Savolning HAR BIR qismiga javob bering — ikki savolli topshiriqda ikkala savolga ham.
- 250 so‘zdan kam bo‘lsa ball kamaytiriladi; 270–320 so‘z eng qulay.
Namuna javob
Ikkala savolga to‘liq javob, sabablar chuqur, mahalliy misol (Marg‘ilon) bilan asoslangan. Namuna hajmi: 281 so‘z.

Skills that were once passed down from generation to generation, such as hand-weaving carpets or carving wooden doors, are now practised by fewer and fewer people. This essay will consider the reasons for this decline and argue that it represents a significant cultural loss.
-
The main reason is economic. Factory-made goods are far cheaper and quicker to produce than handmade items, so craftspeople find it difficult to compete. A hand-woven carpet may take months to complete, whereas a machine can produce a similar-looking one in a few hours. As a result, many young people see traditional crafts as poorly paid and choose careers in offices or technology instead. Urbanisation also plays a role: as families move from villages to cities, the close-knit communities in which skills were taught informally are breaking down. Finally, modern education systems rarely include practical crafts, so children have little opportunity to discover them.
-
I believe this trend is a serious problem. Traditional crafts are an essential part of a nation’s identity; they reflect its history, values and artistic imagination. When these skills disappear, they cannot easily be recovered, because they depend on knowledge that is learned through years of practice rather than written down. Moreover, crafts can be economically valuable, attracting tourists and providing sustainable jobs in rural areas. In Uzbekistan, for instance, the revival of silk weaving in Margilan has created employment and international interest.
-
Governments could therefore support craftspeople through grants, training programmes and markets for their products.
-
In conclusion, traditional skills are disappearing mainly because of cheap mass production and changing lifestyles. This is a genuine problem, as it threatens cultural heritage, but with the right support, many crafts can still be saved.
