IELTS Task 2: Traffic Congestion
IELTS 2-topshiriq: tirbandlik
Traffic congestion is becoming a serious problem in many cities around the world.
What are the main causes of this problem? What measures could be taken to reduce it?
Write at least 250 words.
IELTS Writing Task 2 — umumiy ballning uchdan ikki qismini beradi. Savol turini aniqlang (fikr, ikki tomon, afzallik-kamchilik, muammo-yechim yoki ikki savolli) va savolning har bir qismiga javob bering. Pozitsiya kirishda ham, xulosada ham bir xil bo‘lsin.
- explain the causes — sabablarini tushuntiring
- suggest measures — choralar taklif qiling
- give a clear position — aniq pozitsiya bildiring
Imtihon strategiyasi
- Vaqtni bo‘ling: 5 daqiqa reja, 30 daqiqa yozish, 5 daqiqa tekshirish.
- Har bir asosiy abzas: markaziy gap → izoh → misol yoki natija.
- Savolning HAR BIR qismiga javob bering — ikki savolli topshiriqda ikkala savolga ham.
- 250 so‘zdan kam bo‘lsa ball kamaytiriladi; 270–320 so‘z eng qulay.
Namuna javob
Sabab-yechim mosligi aniq, real misollar (London, Singapur), o‘z fikri bilan “yangi yo’l — yangi tirbandlik” g‘oyasi qo‘shilgan. Namuna hajmi: 283 so‘z.

In cities from Tashkent to Los Angeles, drivers spend hours each week sitting in traffic jams, wasting time and fuel and polluting the air. This essay will discuss the main causes of congestion and propose several measures to reduce it.
-
The primary cause of congestion is the rapid increase in private car ownership. As incomes rise, more families buy cars, which are often seen as a symbol of success as well as a convenient form of transport. At the same time, many cities have grown faster than their road networks and public transport systems. Where buses are infrequent, crowded or unreliable, people have little choice but to drive. Urban planning is another factor: when homes, offices and shops are located far apart, residents must travel long distances every day, usually by car.
-
Several measures could significantly reduce congestion. The most effective is to improve public transport, making it fast, frequent, affordable and comfortable enough to compete with driving. Dedicated bus lanes and metro extensions can move large numbers of people quickly. Secondly, cities could introduce congestion charges, as London and Singapore have done, requiring drivers to pay to enter the busiest areas at peak times. This encourages people to travel differently and raises money for public transport. Finally, safe cycle lanes and pedestrian-friendly streets would make short journeys without a car more attractive.
-
In my view, building more roads is not a long-term solution, because new roads tend to attract even more traffic. Reducing the need to drive is far more effective.
-
In conclusion, congestion is caused mainly by rising car ownership, inadequate public transport and poor urban planning. Better public transport, congestion charges and support for cycling offer the most promising solutions.
