IELTS Task 2: Should University Be Free?
IELTS 2-topshiriq: oliy ta’lim bepul bo‘lishi kerakmi?
Some people believe that university education should be free for all students, while others think that students should pay for their own studies.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Write at least 250 words.
IELTS Writing Task 2 — umumiy ballning uchdan ikki qismini beradi. “Discuss both views and give your opinion” savolida uchta ish qilasiz: birinchi fikrni, ikkinchi fikrni yoritasiz va o‘z pozitsiyangizni aniq aytasiz. Pozitsiya kirishda ham, xulosada ham bir xil bo‘lishi shart.
- discuss the view that students should pay — talabalar o‘zi to‘lashi kerak degan fikrni muhokama qiling
- discuss the view that university should be free — oliy ta’lim bepul bo‘lishi kerak degan fikrni muhokama qiling
- give and justify your own opinion — o‘z fikringizni bildiring va asoslang
Imtihon strategiyasi
- Vaqtni bo‘ling: 5 daqiqa reja, 30 daqiqa yozish, 5 daqiqa tekshirish.
- Har bir asosiy abzas: markaziy gap → izoh → misol yoki natija. Bu fikrni “rivojlantirish” deyiladi.
- Pozitsiya kirishda va xulosada bir xil bo‘lsin — o‘rtada fikr o‘zgarsa, Task Response tushadi.
- 250 so‘zdan kam bo‘lsa, ball kamaytiriladi. 270–320 so‘z — eng qulay hajm.
Namuna javob
Savolning uchala qismiga to‘liq javob berilgan, pozitsiya boshidan oxirigacha izchil. Abzaslar aniq, bog‘lovchilar tabiiy (Moreover, On the other hand, As a result, In contrast). Lug‘at aniq va akademik (substantial, inevitably, in effect), murakkab gaplar xatosiz. Taxminan 280 so‘z.

Whether higher education should be funded by the state or by students themselves is a question that divides opinion. While there are persuasive arguments on both sides, I am convinced that the benefits of free university education outweigh its costs.
-
Those who argue that students should pay point out that a degree brings substantial personal rewards. Graduates typically earn considerably more over their lifetime than non-graduates, so it seems fair that they, rather than taxpayers who may never have attended university, should cover the cost. Moreover, when students invest their own money, they are arguably more likely to choose their course carefully and take their studies seriously.
-
On the other hand, supporters of free tuition argue that education is a public good rather than a private privilege. A society benefits enormously from having well-trained doctors, engineers and teachers, and these benefits extend far beyond the individuals who hold the degrees. Furthermore, tuition fees inevitably discourage talented young people from low-income families, who may be unwilling to take on large debts. As a result, access to higher education comes to depend on wealth rather than ability, which is both unfair and wasteful.
-
In my view, the second argument is more convincing. Although graduates do gain personally, much of this gain is returned to society through higher taxes, so free tuition is, in effect, an investment that pays for itself over time. Charging fees, in contrast, risks excluding precisely the students whose potential a country can least afford to lose.
-
In conclusion, while asking students to pay for their studies has a certain logic, I believe that governments should fund university education, because doing so promotes both fairness and long-term economic growth.
