Every day, millions of stories are shared on social media. Many of them are true, but a surprising number are not. Some are simple mistakes, some are jokes that people take seriously, and others are deliberately written to trick readers, often to make money from advertising or to influence people’s opinions. These false stories are often called “fake news”.
Har kuni ijtimoiy tarmoqlarda millionlab xabarlar ulashiladi. Ularning ko‘pi haqiqat, lekin hayratlanarli darajada ko‘pi haqiqat emas. Ba’zilari oddiy xatolar, ba’zilari odamlar jiddiy qabul qiladigan hazillar, boshqalari esa o‘quvchilarni aldash uchun, ko‘pincha reklamadan pul topish yoki odamlarning fikriga ta’sir qilish maqsadida ataylab yoziladi. Bunday yolg‘on xabarlar ko‘pincha “soxta yangiliklar” deb ataladi.
Fake news spreads quickly. A famous study by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology looked at more than 120,000 stories on Twitter. They found that false stories reached people about six times faster than true ones. The main reason was not computer programs but ordinary people. False stories are often more surprising and emotional than the truth, so people want to share them.
Soxta xabarlar tez tarqaladi. Massachusets texnologiya institutining olimlari o‘tkazgan mashhur tadqiqotda Twitterdagi 120 000 dan ortiq xabar o‘rganildi. Ular yolg‘on xabarlar odamlarga haqiqiy xabarlardan taxminan olti marta tezroq yetib borishini aniqlashdi. Asosiy sabab kompyuter dasturlari emas, oddiy odamlar edi. Yolg‘on xabarlar ko‘pincha haqiqatdan ko‘ra hayratlanarliroq va hissiyroq bo‘ladi, shuning uchun odamlar ularni ulashishni xohlashadi.
So how can you protect yourself? First, look carefully at the source. Is the story from a well-known news organisation, or from a website you have never heard of? Check the web address: some fake sites copy the names of real newspapers but change one letter. Also, look for an “About us” page. Real news organisations usually say who they are and how to contact them.
Xo‘sh, o‘zingizni qanday himoya qilishingiz mumkin? Birinchidan, manbaga diqqat bilan qarang. Xabar taniqli axborot tashkilotidanmi yoki siz hech qachon eshitmagan saytdanmi? Veb-manzilni tekshiring: ba’zi soxta saytlar haqiqiy gazetalarning nomlarini ko‘chirib, bitta harfni o‘zgartiradi. Shuningdek, “Biz haqimizda” sahifasini qidiring. Haqiqiy axborot tashkilotlari odatda kim ekanliklari va ular bilan qanday bog‘lanish mumkinligini aytishadi.
Second, read more than the headline. Headlines are written to make you click, and they sometimes say something quite different from the article itself. Many people share stories without reading them at all. Before you share anything, read the whole article and ask yourself whether the facts really support the headline.
Ikkinchidan, sarlavhadan ko‘proq narsani o‘qing. Sarlavhalar sizni bosishga undash uchun yoziladi va ba’zan maqolaning o‘zidan ancha farq qiladigan narsani aytadi. Ko‘p odamlar xabarlarni umuman o‘qimasdan ulashadi. Biror narsani ulashishdan oldin, butun maqolani o‘qing va faktlar haqiqatan ham sarlavhani tasdiqlaydimi, deb o‘zingizdan so‘rang.
Third, check whether other reliable sources are reporting the same story. If something really important has happened, such as an earthquake or a major political event, many news organisations will be writing about it. If only one unknown website has the story, be careful. There are also special fact-checking websites that investigate popular stories and explain whether they are true.
Uchinchidan, boshqa ishonchli manbalar ham xuddi shu xabarni berayotganini tekshiring. Agar zilzila yoki yirik siyosiy voqea kabi haqiqatan muhim narsa sodir bo‘lgan bo‘lsa, ko‘plab axborot tashkilotlari bu haqda yozadi. Agar xabar faqat bitta noma’lum saytda bo‘lsa, ehtiyot bo‘ling. Shuningdek, mashhur xabarlarni tekshirib, ular haqiqatmi yoki yo‘qligini tushuntiradigan maxsus fakt-tekshirish saytlari ham bor.
Fourth, be careful with photos and videos. A picture can be real but come from a different place or time. For example, after a flood, people sometimes share dramatic photos that were actually taken years earlier in another country. You can use a reverse image search to find out where a photo first appeared online.
To‘rtinchidan, rasm va videolarga ehtiyot bo‘ling. Rasm haqiqiy bo‘lishi, lekin boshqa joy yoki vaqtga tegishli bo‘lishi mumkin. Masalan, suv toshqinidan keyin odamlar ba’zan aslida yillar oldin boshqa mamlakatda olingan dramatik rasmlarni ulashishadi. Rasm internetda birinchi marta qayerda paydo bo‘lganini bilish uchun teskari rasm qidiruvidan foydalanishingiz mumkin.
Finally, notice your own feelings. If a story makes you very angry or very excited, stop and think. Fake news is often designed to create strong emotions, because emotional people are less likely to check the facts. Taking just one minute to think before you share can stop false information from spreading further.
Va nihoyat, o‘z his-tuyg‘ularingizga e’tibor bering. Agar xabar sizni juda g‘azablantirsa yoki juda hayajonlantirsa, to‘xtab o‘ylang. Soxta xabarlar ko‘pincha kuchli his-tuyg‘ular uyg‘otish uchun yaratiladi, chunki hayajonlangan odamlar faktlarni kamroq tekshiradi. Ulashishdan oldin bor-yo‘g‘i bir daqiqa o‘ylash yolg‘on ma’lumotning yanada tarqalishini to‘xtatishi mumkin.
