There is no shortage of podcasts these days. It sometimes seems that everyone with a microphone and an opinion has started one, and finding something genuinely worth your time can feel like looking for a needle in a haystack. “Ordinary Heroes”, which has just finished its second season, is one of those rare finds: a carefully made, emotionally powerful series that left me thinking about its subjects long after each episode ended.
Bugungi kunda podkastlar yetishmaydi deb bo‘lmaydi. Ba’zan mikrofoni va fikri bor har bir kishi podkast boshlagandek tuyuladi va vaqtingizga haqiqatan ham arziydigan narsani topish pichan g‘aramidan igna qidirishdek bo‘lishi mumkin. Ikkinchi mavsumini endigina yakunlagan “Oddiy qahramonlar” ana shunday kamdan-kam topilmalardan biri: puxta tayyorlangan, hissiy jihatdan kuchli turkum bo‘lib, har bir epizod tugaganidan keyin ham uzoq vaqt uning qahramonlari haqida o‘ylab yurdim.
The idea is simple. Each forty-minute episode tells the story of one person who did something remarkable without seeking fame or reward. In the first episode of the new season, we meet a retired bus driver who has spent twenty years teaching children in his neighbourhood to read, for free, in his garage. Another episode follows a young doctor who left a well-paid job in the capital to work in a remote mountain clinic. A third tells the story of a woman who organised her entire village to rebuild a school after it was damaged by floods.
G‘oya oddiy. Har bir qirq daqiqalik epizod shon-shuhrat yoki mukofot izlamasdan ajoyib ish qilgan bir kishi haqida hikoya qiladi. Yangi mavsumning birinchi epizodida biz yigirma yil davomida o‘z mahallasidagi bolalarga garajida bepul o‘qishni o‘rgatib kelayotgan nafaqadagi avtobus haydovchisi bilan tanishamiz. Boshqa bir epizod poytaxtdagi yaxshi maoshli ishini tashlab, uzoq tog‘dagi klinikada ishlash uchun ketgan yosh shifokor hayotini kuzatadi. Uchinchisi toshqindan zarar ko‘rgan maktabni qayta qurish uchun butun qishlog‘ini uyushtirgan ayol hikoyasini so‘zlab beradi.
What makes the series special is the way it is made. The presenter, the journalist Nodira Saidova, rarely speaks herself. Instead, she lets her subjects tell their stories in their own words, and she has a remarkable talent for asking the simple question that unlocks a memory. The sound design is also excellent: we hear the noise of the children in the garage, the wind outside the mountain clinic, the voices of villagers carrying bricks. These details make you feel as if you are there.
Turkumni maxsus qiladigan narsa uning qanday tayyorlanganidir. Boshlovchi jurnalist Nodira Saidova o‘zi kamdan-kam gapiradi. Buning o‘rniga u qahramonlariga o‘z hikoyalarini o‘z so‘zlari bilan aytib berishga imkon beradi va xotirani ochib yuboradigan oddiy savolni berishda ajoyib iste’dodga ega. Ovoz dizayni ham a’lo darajada: biz garajdagi bolalar shovqinini, tog‘ klinikasi tashqarisidagi shamolni, g‘isht tashiyotgan qishloq aholisining ovozlarini eshitamiz. Bu tafsilotlar sizni go‘yo o‘sha yerda turgandek his qildiradi.
The series also avoids an easy trap. Stories about “heroes” can easily become sentimental or unrealistic, presenting people as saints without flaws. “Ordinary Heroes” is more honest. The bus driver admits that his teaching began partly because he was lonely after his wife died. The doctor talks openly about the moments when she regretted her decision and wanted to go home. This honesty makes the stories more believable and, in the end, more inspiring.
Turkum oson tuzoqdan ham qochadi. “Qahramonlar” haqidagi hikoyalar osongina hissiyotga berilgan yoki noreal bo‘lib, odamlarni kamchiliksiz avliyolar sifatida ko‘rsatishi mumkin. “Oddiy qahramonlar” esa halolroq. Avtobus haydovchisi o‘qitishni qisman xotini vafot etgandan keyin yolg‘iz qolgani uchun boshlaganini tan oladi. Shifokor qaroridan pushaymon bo‘lib, uyga qaytmoqchi bo‘lgan paytlari haqida ochiq gapiradi. Bu samimiylik hikoyalarni ishonarliroq va oxir-oqibat ko‘proq ilhomlantiruvchi qiladi.
The series is not perfect. A couple of episodes in the middle of the season feel too long, and some listeners may find the gentle background music a little repetitive. I also wished that the programme had followed up on some of its subjects: we never find out, for example, whether the school was completed before the new academic year.
Turkum mukammal emas. Mavsum o‘rtasidagi bir-ikki epizod juda uzun tuyuladi va ba’zi tinglovchilar yumshoq fon musiqasini biroz takroriy deb bilishi mumkin. Shuningdek, dastur ba’zi qahramonlarining keyingi taqdirini kuzatishini istardim: masalan, maktab yangi o‘quv yilidan oldin qurib bitkazilganmi yoki yo‘qmi, buni hech qachon bilmaymiz.
For English learners, the podcast has an additional benefit: an English version of each episode is available, with a full transcript on the website. The speakers in the English version talk clearly and at a natural pace, and the transcripts make it easy to check words you did not catch.
Ingliz tilini o‘rganuvchilar uchun podkastning qo‘shimcha foydasi bor: har bir epizodning ingliz tilidagi versiyasi mavjud va saytda to‘liq matni berilgan. Inglizcha versiyadagi so‘zlovchilar aniq va tabiiy sur’atda gapiradi, matnlar esa eshitib ilg‘amagan so‘zlaringizni tekshirishni osonlashtiradi.
Overall, “Ordinary Heroes” is a reminder that kindness and courage are not rare, but simply rarely reported. In a media world dominated by bad news, it is a genuinely uplifting listen. I would give it four and a half stars out of five, and I am already looking forward to the third season.
Umuman olganda, “Oddiy qahramonlar” mehribonlik va jasorat kamyob emas, shunchaki ular haqida kam xabar qilinishini eslatadi. Yomon yangiliklar hukmron bo‘lgan ommaviy axborot dunyosida bu haqiqatan ham ruhni ko‘taradigan eshittirish. Men unga beshdan to‘rt yarim yulduz bergan bo‘lardim va uchinchi mavsumni allaqachon intiqlik bilan kutyapman.
