Has technology changed your job?
Namuna javob
Completely — tasks that took days now take minutes, but expectations have risen accordingly.

Describe a job that has changed significantly because of technology.
You should say:
- what the job is
- how it used to be done
- how it is done now
and explain whether you think the changes have been positive.
Namuna javob
A job that has been transformed by technology is that of a bank teller. When I was a child in the late 1990s, going to the bank was an event. You’d queue for what felt like hours in a crowded branch, and the teller would count cash by hand, fill in paper ledgers and stamp documents; transferring money to another city could take days. My mother, who worked as a teller for fifteen years, used to describe how the job relied on precision, patience and a remarkable memory for regular customers. Today, the role has changed almost beyond recognition. Most routine transactions — payments, transfers, even loan applications — are done through mobile apps in seconds, and cash machines handle withdrawals. Branches have fewer staff, and those who remain act more like advisers than tellers: they help elderly customers with digital services, explain financial products or resolve complex problems. As for whether the changes have been positive, I’d say largely yes, but not without costs. For customers, banking has become vastly more convenient and accessible, especially for people in rural areas who previously had to travel to a branch. For banks, efficiency has improved dramatically. However, many tellers lost their jobs, and not all were able to retrain; my mother took early retirement partly because she found the shift to new systems overwhelming. There’s also a social cost: older people who aren’t comfortable with technology can feel excluded. So I think the overall effect has been positive, but it shows that the benefits of automation tend to be widely spread, while the costs fall heavily on specific groups — which is why retraining and inclusion should be part of any technological transition.

-
Will automation lead to mass unemployment?
Namuna javob
History suggests technology creates new jobs as it destroys old ones, but the transition can be painful, and the new jobs may require very different skills or be located elsewhere. The risk is less permanent mass unemployment than prolonged disruption for certain groups.
Tarix + nozik farq.
-
Who should pay for retraining workers whose jobs are automated?
Namuna javob
A shared approach seems fairest: companies that profit from automation, governments through education funding, and individuals through a commitment to learning.
Taqsimlangan mas’uliyat.
-
Should there be a universal basic income?
Namuna javob
It’s an intriguing idea, particularly if automation dramatically reduces demand for labour. But it raises serious questions about cost and work incentives, so pilot programmes are a sensible first step.
Ochiq, ehtiyotkor.
-
What skills will be most valuable in the future?
Namuna javob
Skills machines find difficult: complex problem-solving, creativity, interpersonal and emotional skills, and the ability to keep learning.
