-
Do you enjoy shopping?
Namuna javob
For specific purposes, yes, but I find aimless browsing rather draining.
Nozik.
-
Have your spending habits changed in recent years?
Namuna javob
Considerably. I now buy fewer, better-quality items and think twice about anything that’s a trend.
O‘zgarish.
-
Do you ever regret buying things?
Namuna javob
Occasionally — mainly things I bought on sale simply because they were cheap.
Halol.
-
Is second-hand shopping popular where you live?
Namuna javob
It’s growing among young people, partly for environmental reasons and partly because vintage is fashionable.
Trend.

Describe something you bought that you later regretted.
You should say:
- what it was
- when and where you bought it
- why you bought it
and explain why you regretted buying it.
Namuna javob
Something I bought and soon regretted was an expensive smartwatch, which I purchased about two years ago during a major online sale event. At the time, I’d convinced myself that it would transform my health — tracking my sleep, counting steps, reminding me to stand up — and the discount, around forty percent, made it feel like a bargain I couldn’t miss. In hindsight, I bought it for a combination of reasons that had little to do with genuine need. There was the artificial urgency of the sale, with a countdown timer on the website; there was a slightly aspirational image of myself as someone who’d become fitter overnight; and, if I’m honest, several colleagues had one, and I didn’t want to feel left behind. For the first few weeks, I was enthusiastic, but the novelty wore off quickly. The constant notifications made me more anxious rather than healthier, the battery needed charging almost daily, and I found that the data, while interesting, didn’t actually change my behaviour. Within three months, it was sitting in a drawer. I regretted it partly because of the money, but more because it exposed how easily I could be manipulated by marketing techniques that I would have criticised if someone else had fallen for them. Ironically, that lesson has probably saved me far more money than the watch cost, because I now impose a rule on myself: I wait a week before buying anything non-essential.

-
Does advertising make people want things they don’t need?
Namuna javob
Largely, yes — that’s essentially its purpose. Modern advertising rarely sells products on their features; it sells identities, lifestyles and the promise of happiness, which taps into deep psychological needs.
Mexanizm tahlili.
-
Is economic growth possible without high levels of consumption?
Namuna javob
That’s one of the central questions of our time. Some economists argue for “green growth”, where we consume services and experiences rather than physical goods. Whether that can sustain growth at the current pace remains genuinely uncertain.
Ochiq savolni tan olish.
-
Should companies be forced to make products that last longer?
Namuna javob
I think there’s a strong case for regulation, such as a “right to repair” and minimum warranty periods, since planned obsolescence generates enormous waste.
Pozitsiya + misol.
-
Are young people more or less materialistic than previous generations?
Namuna javob
It’s mixed. Many young people value experiences over possessions and care about sustainability, yet they’re also heavily targeted by influencer marketing, which promotes constant consumption.
Murakkab manzara.
