Describe a person who works in healthcare that you admire.
You should say:
- who the person is
- what his or her job involves
- how you know this person
and explain why you admire him or her.
Namuna javob
The person I’d like to describe is Dr Nilufar, a rural family doctor who runs a small clinic in a village in the Surkhandarya region, in the far south of Uzbekistan. I got to know her about three years ago when I volunteered with a public-health project there for a month. Her job is extraordinarily varied. On any given day, she might treat a child with an infection, deliver a baby, manage elderly patients with diabetes and high blood pressure, and visit families in villages so remote that the roads are impassable after heavy rain. She is the only doctor for roughly eight thousand people, supported by two nurses. What I admire most is not simply her dedication, although she regularly works twelve-hour days, but her approach. Rather than waiting for people to become seriously ill, she has quietly built a prevention system. She trained local women as volunteer health workers who check blood pressure and remind neighbours about vaccinations, and she runs informal talks on nutrition in the local tea house — which, she told me, is where you actually reach the men. As a result, the rate of late-stage complications in her area has fallen noticeably. I also admire her humility. She could have earned far more in a private clinic in Tashkent, but she sees her work as a moral responsibility to the community she grew up in. Spending time with her made me reconsider what success in medicine really looks like; it isn’t always about cutting-edge technology, but about trust, creativity and persistence.

-
Should healthcare be free for everyone?
Namuna javob
I believe basic healthcare should be universally accessible, since illness doesn’t discriminate by income. The real debate is about how to fund it sustainably — through taxation, insurance or a mixture of both.
Pozitsiya + amaliy savol.
-
Is it the government’s responsibility to make people live healthier lives?
Namuna javob
To an extent. Governments can shape environments — taxing sugar, building parks, regulating advertising — without dictating personal choices. Heavy-handed intervention, however, tends to provoke resistance.
Chegarani belgilash.
-
Why is there a shortage of doctors in rural areas?
Namuna javob
Lower salaries, limited career progression, poorer facilities and the reluctance of doctors’ families to leave cities. Incentives like housing and loan forgiveness can help, but the conditions themselves need improving.
Ko‘p sabab + yechim.
-
How might technology change healthcare?
Namuna javob
Telemedicine could transform rural care, and AI may improve early diagnosis. But technology can’t replace the human relationship, and there’s a risk of widening inequality if only wealthier patients benefit.
Imkoniyat + xavf.
