Describe a word or expression from your language that you find interesting.
You should say:
- what the word or expression is
- what it means
- when people use it
and explain why you find it interesting.
Namuna javob
An Uzbek expression I find endlessly fascinating is “joningiz sog‘ bo‘lsin”, which literally translates as “may your soul be healthy”. Its actual usage, however, is far richer than that translation suggests. People use it in a surprising range of situations: when someone apologises for a mistake, when they’ve lost something valuable, or when they thank you for a favour you were glad to do. In each case, it essentially means, “Don’t worry about it — what really matters is that you’re well.” For instance, if a guest accidentally breaks a cup, the host would almost certainly say “joningiz sog‘ bo‘lsin”, immediately dismissing the material loss in favour of the person’s well-being. I find it interesting for several reasons. Linguistically, it’s a nice example of how a phrase can drift far from its literal meaning, becoming a social tool rather than a description. But more importantly, I think it reveals something about the values of the culture. It encodes a hierarchy in which people matter more than possessions, and it allows someone to save face gracefully after an awkward moment. When I translate into English, I usually render it as “Never mind” or “It’s nothing”, but both sound rather flat by comparison, because they lack that warmth and the implicit blessing. It’s one of those moments when I’m reminded that languages aren’t just different labels for the same reality; they shape and reflect the way people relate to one another.
Ibora → so‘zma-so‘z va haqiqiy ma’no → qo‘llash vaziyatlari (misol) → lingvistik + madaniy tahlil.
3-qism: Muhokama
Band 7–8 uchun Part 3 da mavhum g‘oyalarni muhokama qilish, taxmin qilish, taqqoslash va nozik pozitsiya bildirish kutiladi.
-
Does the language we speak influence the way we think?
Namuna javob
To some extent, I believe it does — not by limiting what we can think, but by making certain distinctions habitual. Languages that require you to mark politeness, for example, make you constantly aware of social hierarchy.
Nozik pozitsiya.
-
Should countries protect minority languages?
Namuna javob
Yes, because each language represents a unique body of knowledge and culture. Protection works best through education and media in that language, rather than through compulsion.
Asos + usul.
-
Is English becoming too dominant globally?
Namuna javob
It’s undeniably useful as a lingua franca, but its dominance can marginalise other languages and give native speakers an unfair advantage in science and business.
Ikki tomon.
-
Will people still need to learn foreign languages in the future?
Namuna javob
For practical transactions, perhaps less so, given translation technology. But for genuine understanding, relationships and cultural depth, learning a language will remain irreplaceable.
Farqlash.
