-
How do you usually get around your city?
Namuna javob
Mostly by metro, and by taxi late at night — I gave up driving in the centre.
Odat.
-
Has public transport improved where you live?
Namuna javob
Considerably — new metro lines and electric buses, though rush hour is still brutal.
O‘zgarish.
-
Would you cycle to work?
Namuna javob
If there were safe, separated lanes, gladly. At the moment, it feels too risky.
Shart.
-
Do you enjoy long journeys?
Namuna javob
By train, yes — it’s one of the few times I can read uninterrupted.
Farqlash.

Describe a transport improvement that has made a difference where you live.
You should say:
- what the improvement was
- when it was introduced
- who uses it
and explain what difference it has made.
Namuna javob
An improvement that has made a real difference in Tashkent is the extension of the metro, particularly the above-ground circle line that opened in stages from around 2020. Before that, the metro served mainly the city centre, and residents of outer districts like Sergeli faced long, crowded journeys on minibuses that were often overloaded and unpredictable. The new line connects several of these districts, and it’s used by a broad cross-section of people: students commuting to universities, workers heading to the centre, and families travelling to markets at weekends. The difference has been significant on several levels. Practically, journey times for many people have been cut dramatically; a colleague who lives in the south told me her commute fell from over an hour to about thirty-five minutes. Economically, it has widened access to jobs and education, since people living on the outskirts can now realistically work or study in the centre without enormous time costs. There’s also an equity dimension: the metro is very cheap, so it particularly benefits lower-income residents who can’t afford taxis. That said, I’d add some caveats. The stations on the new line are spaced further apart than in the centre, so the “last mile” — getting from home to the station — is still a problem, and the trains can be packed at peak times. And car use hasn’t fallen as much as hoped, partly because driving remains relatively cheap. So it’s a genuine improvement, but it needs to be part of a broader strategy, including better connections and measures to discourage unnecessary car journeys.
Avvalgi holat → yaxshilanish → foydalanuvchilar → farq (amaliy, iqtisodiy, tenglik) → cheklovlar → kengroq strategiya.
3-qism: Muhokama
Band 7–8 uchun Part 3 da mavhum g‘oyalarni muhokama qilish, taxmin qilish, taqqoslash va nozik pozitsiya bildirish kutiladi.
-
Should cars be banned from city centres?
Namuna javob
A complete ban may be too abrupt for many cities, but restricting cars in historic or densely populated cores, combined with excellent public transport, has worked well in places like Oslo and Ljubljana.
Shartli + misollar.
-
Why don’t building more roads solve traffic problems?
Namuna javob
Because of induced demand: new capacity makes driving more attractive, so more people drive, and congestion returns within a few years.
Mexanizm.
-
Should public transport be free?
Namuna javob
It can boost usage, but the evidence is mixed — frequency and reliability often matter more to passengers than price. Funding would need to come from somewhere, possibly congestion charges.
Dalil asosida.
-
How will transport change in the next twenty years?
Namuna javob
Electrification is almost certain; autonomous vehicles are more uncertain. The bigger question is whether cities will be designed around people or around vehicles.
Ishonchlilik darajasi bilan bashorat.
