IELTS Task 2: Athletes’ Salaries
IELTS 2-topshiriq: sportchilar maoshi
Professional athletes earn far more money than people in other important professions, such as nurses, doctors and teachers.
Some people think this is fair, while others think it is unfair. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Write at least 250 words.
IELTS Writing Task 2 — umumiy ballning uchdan ikki qismini beradi. Savol turini aniqlang (fikr, ikki tomon, afzallik-kamchilik, muammo-yechim yoki ikki savolli) va savolning har bir qismiga javob bering. Pozitsiya kirishda ham, xulosada ham bir xil bo‘lsin.
- discuss the view that it is fair — adolatli degan fikrni muhokama qiling
- discuss the view that it is unfair — adolatsiz degan fikrni muhokama qiling
- give your own opinion — o‘z fikringizni bildiring
Imtihon strategiyasi
- Vaqtni bo‘ling: 5 daqiqa reja, 30 daqiqa yozish, 5 daqiqa tekshirish.
- Har bir asosiy abzas: markaziy gap → izoh → misol yoki natija.
- Savolning HAR BIR qismiga javob bering — ikki savolli topshiriqda ikkala savolga ham.
- 250 so‘zdan kam bo‘lsa ball kamaytiriladi; 270–320 so‘z eng qulay.
Namuna javob
Ikkala tomon chuqur, o‘z pozitsiyasi nozik va konstruktiv, “Rather than …” kabi murakkab tuzilmalar to‘g‘ri. Namuna hajmi: 276 so‘z.

Top footballers and tennis players can earn more in a single week than a nurse earns in several years. Some people accept this as the natural result of the market, while others find it deeply unfair. In my view, although athletes’ high salaries can be explained, they reflect distorted values in society.
-
Those who consider these salaries fair argue that athletes are paid according to the money they generate. Major sports attract billions of viewers, and clubs earn huge sums from television rights, sponsorship and ticket sales, so the most talented players simply receive a share of that income. Moreover, professional careers are short, often ending by the age of thirty-five, and they require years of intense training and sacrifice, as well as the constant risk of serious injury. Only a tiny proportion of those who try ever reach the top.
-
On the other hand, many people believe that pay should reflect a person’s contribution to society. Nurses, doctors and teachers save lives and educate future generations, yet they are often underpaid and overworked. It seems difficult to justify a system in which entertaining people is rewarded far more generously than caring for them or teaching them.
-
I believe both arguments contain some truth. Athletes are not to blame for earning what the market offers, but the enormous gap between their salaries and those of essential workers suggests that society undervalues public services. Rather than limiting athletes’ pay, governments should invest more in the salaries and working conditions of nurses and teachers.
-
In conclusion, athletes’ high earnings can be explained by market forces, but the comparison with essential professions reveals an imbalance that society should address.
