IELTS Task 2: Living Alone
IELTS 2-topshiriq: yolg‘iz yashash
In many countries, an increasing number of people are choosing to live alone.
What are the reasons for this? Is it a positive or negative development?
Write at least 250 words.
IELTS Writing Task 2 — umumiy ballning uchdan ikki qismini beradi. Savol turini aniqlang (fikr, ikki tomon, afzallik-kamchilik, muammo-yechim yoki ikki savolli) va savolning har bir qismiga javob bering. Pozitsiya kirishda ham, xulosada ham bir xil bo‘lsin.
- explain the reasons — sabablarini tushuntiring
- say whether it is positive or negative — ijobiy yoki salbiy ekanini ayting
- support your view with examples — fikringizni misollar bilan asoslang
Imtihon strategiyasi
- Vaqtni bo‘ling: 5 daqiqa reja, 30 daqiqa yozish, 5 daqiqa tekshirish.
- Har bir asosiy abzas: markaziy gap → izoh → misol yoki natija.
- Savolning HAR BIR qismiga javob bering — ikki savolli topshiriqda ikkala savolga ham.
- 250 so‘zdan kam bo‘lsa ball kamaytiriladi; 270–320 so‘z eng qulay.
Namuna javob
Ikkala savolga to‘liq javob, sabablar va oqibatlar chuqur, pozitsiya nozik va shartli. Namuna hajmi: 283 so‘z.

In many cities around the world, single-person households are now the fastest-growing type of home. This essay will explore why so many people choose to live alone and argue that, although this trend brings greater freedom, its overall effects are mixed.
-
Several factors explain this development. Firstly, people are marrying later or not at all, as they prioritise education and careers. Many young professionals move to large cities for work and prefer the independence of their own flat to sharing with others. Secondly, rising incomes in some countries mean that more people can afford to live independently. Finally, people are living longer, so many elderly people, particularly widows, live alone for many years after the death of a partner. In Sweden, for example, more than half of all households now consist of a single person. Changing social attitudes also play a role: living alone is no longer seen as unusual or unfortunate.
-
This trend has clear advantages. Living alone gives people freedom to organise their lives as they wish, and many find it helps them become more self-reliant and confident. However, there are also serious drawbacks. Loneliness is a growing public health concern, and studies have linked social isolation to depression and heart disease, especially among older people. In addition, single-person households use more housing, energy and resources per person, which puts pressure on cities and the environment.
-
In my view, living alone is a positive choice for those who maintain strong social connections, but it becomes harmful when it leads to isolation.
-
In conclusion, people increasingly live alone because of later marriage, urban careers and longer lives. While this offers independence, societies must ensure that it does not result in widespread loneliness.
