Famous people have millions of followers on social media, many of whom are teenagers who copy their style, opinions and behaviour. I agree to a large extent that celebrities have a responsibility to set a good example, although parents and teachers remain the most important role models.
The main reason for my view is the enormous influence celebrities have over young people. When a popular singer speaks openly about mental health or a footballer supports a charity, they can encourage millions of fans to think and act more positively. Conversely, when celebrities promote dangerous diets, glorify violence or behave irresponsibly, young fans may imitate them. Since celebrities benefit financially from their popularity, it seems reasonable to expect them to accept the responsibility that comes with it. Many stars, moreover, deliberately present themselves as role models in order to attract sponsorship.
On the other hand, celebrities are human beings, and it may be unfair to expect perfection from them. Many became famous for their talent in music or sport, not because they wanted to guide young people. Constant media attention means that every mistake they make is exaggerated, and their private lives are often exposed against their will. Furthermore, focusing on celebrities may distract from the responsibility of parents, teachers and communities, who have a far more direct influence on children.
While these points are valid, I believe that anyone with a large public platform should behave responsibly in public, even if they cannot be perfect in private.
In conclusion, celebrities cannot replace parents and teachers, but their influence on young people is so powerful that they should make a conscious effort to set a positive example.
