IELTS Task 2: Children and Screen Time
IELTS 2-topshiriq: bolalar va ekran
Nowadays, many children spend several hours a day using phones, tablets and computers.
Why is this the case? Is this a positive or negative development?
Write at least 250 words.
IELTS Writing Task 2 — umumiy ballning uchdan ikki qismini beradi. Savol turini aniqlang (fikr, ikki tomon, afzallik-kamchilik, muammo-yechim yoki ikki savolli) va savolning har bir qismiga javob bering. Pozitsiya kirishda ham, xulosada ham bir xil bo‘lsin.
- explain why this happens — nega shunday bo‘layotganini tushuntiring
- say whether it is positive or negative — ijobiy yoki salbiy ekanini ayting
- support your view with examples — fikringizni misollar bilan asoslang
Imtihon strategiyasi
- Vaqtni bo‘ling: 5 daqiqa reja, 30 daqiqa yozish, 5 daqiqa tekshirish.
- Har bir asosiy abzas: markaziy gap → izoh → misol yoki natija.
- Savolning HAR BIR qismiga javob bering — ikki savolli topshiriqda ikkala savolga ham.
- 250 so‘zdan kam bo‘lsa ball kamaytiriladi; 270–320 so‘z eng qulay.
Namuna javob
Ikkala savolga aniq javob, sabablar va oqibatlar mantiqiy, misol va tadqiqotga ishora bilan asoslangan. Namuna hajmi: 270 so‘z.

It is now common to see young children absorbed in tablets in restaurants, cars and even playgrounds. This essay will explain the reasons for this trend and argue that, on balance, it is a negative development.
-
There are several reasons why children spend so much time on screens. Firstly, digital devices are now cheap and present in almost every home, and many parents, who are busy with work, find them a convenient way to keep their children quiet and entertained. Secondly, much of children’s social life has moved online: games and messaging apps are where friends meet. Finally, schools increasingly use digital platforms for homework, so screens have become part of education itself. Advertising also plays a role, as companies design games and apps specifically to keep young users engaged for as long as possible.
-
While technology can certainly support learning, excessive screen time is largely harmful. Research suggests that it reduces physical activity, disrupts sleep and can affect children’s ability to concentrate. For instance, many teachers report that pupils find it increasingly difficult to read long texts or listen for extended periods. Moreover, time spent on devices often replaces face-to-face play, which is essential for developing social skills. Children who spend most of their free time online may also be exposed to inappropriate content or to strangers who wish to harm them.
-
In conclusion, children spend hours on screens because devices are convenient, social and educational. Nevertheless, I believe the overall effect is negative, and parents should set clear limits to ensure a healthy balance. Schools, too, should teach children to use technology wisely rather than simply more often.
