Some people think that public transport should be free for everyone.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Write at least 250 words.
IELTS Writing Task 2 — umumiy ballning uchdan ikki qismini beradi. Savol turini aniqlang (fikr, ikki tomon, afzallik-kamchilik, muammo-yechim yoki ikki savolli) va savolning har bir qismiga javob bering. Pozitsiya kirishda ham, xulosada ham bir xil bo‘lsin.
- present arguments for free public transport — bepul transport foydasiga dalillar keltiring
- present arguments against it — qarshi dalillarni keltiring
- state clearly how far you agree — qanchalik qo‘shilishingizni ayting
Imtihon strategiyasi
- Vaqtni bo‘ling: 5 daqiqa reja, 30 daqiqa yozish, 5 daqiqa tekshirish.
- Har bir asosiy abzas: markaziy gap → izoh → misol yoki natija.
- Savolning HAR BIR qismiga javob bering — ikki savolli topshiriqda ikkala savolga ham.
- 250 so‘zdan kam bo‘lsa ball kamaytiriladi; 270–320 so‘z eng qulay.
Namuna javob
Pozitsiya aniq, real misollar (Tallinn, Luxembourg), qarshi tomonga javob va shartli xulosa — Band 8 darajasidagi argumentatsiya. Namuna hajmi: 269 so‘z.

Traffic congestion and air pollution are growing problems in cities around the world, and some have proposed making buses and trains free to encourage people to leave their cars at home. I agree with this idea to a large extent, although it would need to be introduced carefully.
-
The strongest argument for free public transport is environmental. If travelling by bus or metro cost nothing, many drivers would switch from private cars, reducing both traffic jams and harmful emissions. Free transport would also be fairer, since poorer residents, who often live far from city centres, spend a large share of their income on getting to work. Several European cities, such as Tallinn and Luxembourg, have already introduced free public transport with encouraging results. In Tallinn, for instance, the number of passengers rose significantly in the first year after fares were abolished.
-
On the other hand, running a transport network is extremely expensive, and someone must pay for it. If ticket income disappears, governments would need to raise taxes or cut other services. There is also a risk that, without investment, free buses and trains would become overcrowded and unreliable, which might actually discourage people from using them. Free travel could also lead some people to make unnecessary short journeys that they would previously have walked.
-
These problems are real but not insurmountable. Cities could fund free transport through congestion charges on cars, which would also further reduce traffic.
-
In conclusion, I largely support free public transport because of its environmental and social benefits, provided that it is properly funded and does not lead to a decline in service quality.
