IELTS Task 2: Prison or Rehabilitation?
IELTS 2-topshiriq: qamoq yoki reabilitatsiya?
Some people think that the best way to reduce crime is to give longer prison sentences. Others, however, believe there are better alternative ways of reducing crime.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Write at least 250 words.
IELTS Writing Task 2 — umumiy ballning uchdan ikki qismini beradi. Savol turini aniqlang (fikr, ikki tomon, afzallik-kamchilik, muammo-yechim yoki ikki savolli) va savolning har bir qismiga javob bering. Pozitsiya kirishda ham, xulosada ham bir xil bo‘lsin.
- discuss the view that longer sentences reduce crime — uzoq qamoq jinoyatni kamaytiradi degan fikrni muhokama qiling
- discuss alternative ways of reducing crime — boshqa usullarni muhokama qiling
- give your own opinion — o‘z fikringizni bildiring
Imtihon strategiyasi
- Vaqtni bo‘ling: 5 daqiqa reja, 30 daqiqa yozish, 5 daqiqa tekshirish.
- Har bir asosiy abzas: markaziy gap → izoh → misol yoki natija.
- Savolning HAR BIR qismiga javob bering — ikki savolli topshiriqda ikkala savolga ham.
- 250 so‘zdan kam bo‘lsa ball kamaytiriladi; 270–320 so‘z eng qulay.
Namuna javob
Ikkala fikr dalil bilan, real misol (Norvegiya), pozitsiya nozik va izchil; lug‘at akademik (reoffend, deterrent, rehabilitation). Namuna hajmi: 262 so‘z.

Crime is a concern in every society, and opinions differ on how best to tackle it. While some favour tougher prison sentences, others argue that prevention and rehabilitation are more effective. I believe the second approach offers better long-term results.
-
Supporters of longer sentences argue that severe punishment acts as a deterrent. If potential criminals know they could spend many years in prison, they may think twice before breaking the law. Long sentences also protect the public by keeping dangerous offenders off the streets, and many victims feel that justice requires strict punishment. For serious crimes, a long sentence also expresses society’s moral condemnation of the offence.
-
However, evidence suggests that prison often fails to reduce crime. Many prisoners reoffend soon after their release, partly because they leave prison without qualifications, jobs or support. Alternative approaches focus on the causes of crime. Education and training programmes in prisons give offenders a realistic chance of finding legal work, while community projects for young people can prevent them from becoming involved in crime in the first place. Countries such as Norway, which emphasise rehabilitation, have some of the lowest reoffending rates in the world. Rehabilitation is also considerably cheaper in the long run than keeping large numbers of people in prison for decades.
-
In my view, prison remains necessary for violent criminals, but for most offenders, rehabilitation is far more effective at making society safer.
-
In conclusion, although long sentences may deter some people and protect the public, tackling the root causes of crime through education and rehabilitation is a more successful long-term strategy.
