IELTS Task 2: Tourism and Local Culture
IELTS 2-topshiriq: turizm va mahalliy madaniyat
International tourism has grown rapidly in recent decades, bringing millions of visitors to historic cities and traditional communities.
Do the benefits of international tourism for local communities outweigh the drawbacks?
Write at least 250 words.
IELTS Writing Task 2 — umumiy ballning uchdan ikki qismini beradi. Savol turini aniqlang (fikr, ikki tomon, afzallik-kamchilik, muammo-yechim yoki ikki savolli) va savolning har bir qismiga javob bering. Pozitsiya kirishda ham, xulosada ham bir xil bo‘lsin.
- discuss the benefits — foydalarini muhokama qiling
- discuss the drawbacks — kamchiliklarini muhokama qiling
- say whether benefits outweigh drawbacks — foyda ustunmi, ayting
Imtihon strategiyasi
- Vaqtni bo‘ling: 5 daqiqa reja, 30 daqiqa yozish, 5 daqiqa tekshirish.
- Har bir asosiy abzas: markaziy gap → izoh → misol yoki natija.
- Savolning HAR BIR qismiga javob bering — ikki savolli topshiriqda ikkala savolga ham.
- 250 so‘zdan kam bo‘lsa ball kamaytiriladi; 270–320 so‘z eng qulay.
Namuna javob
Mahalliy misol (Samarqand, Buxoro) argumentni kuchaytiradi, ikkala tomon chuqur, shartli pozitsiya izchil. Namuna hajmi: 276 so‘z.

Cheap flights and social media have turned once quiet towns into global tourist destinations. While this brings undeniable economic benefits, I believe that, without careful management, the costs to local communities can be just as significant. On balance, however, I would argue that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
-
The most obvious advantage is economic. Tourism creates jobs in hotels, restaurants and transport, and it allows craftspeople and farmers to sell their products to a much wider market. In Uzbekistan, for example, the growth of tourism in Samarkand and Bukhara has revived traditional crafts such as silk weaving and ceramics. Income from visitors can also fund the restoration of historic buildings that might otherwise fall into ruin. Furthermore, contact with visitors can encourage local people, especially the young, to take pride in their own heritage and learn foreign languages.
-
On the other hand, mass tourism can damage the very things that attract visitors. Popular sites become overcrowded, rising property prices can force local residents out of historic centres, and traditions risk being turned into commercial performances that lose their original meaning. Environmental damage is another concern, as large numbers of visitors increase waste, water use and traffic in places that were never designed for them.
-
These problems, however, can be reduced through sensible policies, such as limiting visitor numbers at fragile sites and ensuring that tourism income is reinvested in local communities. Encouraging visitors to travel outside the peak season would also spread the economic benefits more evenly throughout the year.
-
In conclusion, tourism can threaten local culture if it is poorly managed, but when it is regulated responsibly, its economic and cultural benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
