Homework has always been part of school life, but many students and parents now question whether it is really useful. In my opinion, homework should not be stopped, but it should be reduced.
Supporters of a ban argue that students need free time to rest, do sport and spend time with their families. After seven hours at school, two or three hours of homework can leave them exhausted and stressed.
However, homework plays an important role in learning. Practising what we have learned in class helps us remember it, and some skills, such as writing essays, simply cannot be developed in a forty-minute lesson.
Furthermore, homework teaches students to be independent and responsible. They learn to organise their time and work without a teacher’s help, which is essential for university.
In conclusion, homework is valuable, but teachers should set shorter, more meaningful tasks so that students still have time for other activities.
