Every year, millions of people travel abroad, and for many countries tourism has become a major industry. While it brings clear benefits, I believe its effects must be managed carefully.
The most obvious benefit of tourism is employment. Hotels, restaurants and tour companies create thousands of jobs, and local people can earn money by selling crafts or food. This is especially important in poorer regions.
On the other hand, tourism can seriously damage the environment. Large numbers of visitors produce rubbish and pollution, and popular beaches and historical sites can be worn down by the crowds.
In addition, tourism helps different cultures understand each other. When visitors experience local traditions, they often develop respect for the country, and local people also benefit from meeting people from around the world.
In conclusion, I think tourism does more good than harm, as long as governments protect the environment and the local way of life.
