IELTS Task 2: Funding the Arts or Science?
IELTS 2-topshiriq: san’atga yoki fanga pul?
Some people think that governments should spend money on scientific research rather than on the arts, such as music, theatre and painting. Others believe that funding the arts is equally important.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Write at least 250 words.
IELTS Writing Task 2 — umumiy ballning uchdan ikki qismini beradi. Savol turini aniqlang (fikr, ikki tomon, afzallik-kamchilik, muammo-yechim yoki ikki savolli) va savolning har bir qismiga javob bering. Pozitsiya kirishda ham, xulosada ham bir xil bo‘lsin.
- discuss the view that science should be the priority — fan ustuvor bo‘lishi kerak degan fikrni muhokama qiling
- discuss the view that the arts are equally important — san’at ham muhim degan fikrni muhokama qiling
- give your own opinion — o‘z fikringizni bildiring
Imtihon strategiyasi
- Vaqtni bo‘ling: 5 daqiqa reja, 30 daqiqa yozish, 5 daqiqa tekshirish.
- Har bir asosiy abzas: markaziy gap → izoh → misol yoki natija.
- Savolning HAR BIR qismiga javob bering — ikki savolli topshiriqda ikkala savolga ham.
- 250 so‘zdan kam bo‘lsa ball kamaytiriladi; 270–320 so‘z eng qulay.
Namuna javob
Ikkala fikr dalil va misollar bilan, o‘z pozitsiyasi aniq va nozik, uchinchi shart (would have been impossible) to‘g‘ri ishlatilgan. Namuna hajmi: 281 so‘z.

Public budgets are limited, and governments must decide how to divide money between competing priorities. Some argue that scientific research should take precedence over the arts, while others believe both deserve support. In my view, science should receive the larger share, but cutting arts funding entirely would be a serious mistake.
-
Supporters of prioritising science point to its practical benefits. Scientific research leads to new medicines, cleaner energy and technologies that create jobs and drive economic growth. The rapid development of vaccines during recent global health crises, for instance, would have been impossible without decades of public investment in research. Faced with challenges such as climate change and disease, many people feel that society cannot afford to spend money on activities that do not directly solve these problems.
-
On the other hand, those who defend arts funding argue that culture is essential to a good society. Music, literature, theatre and painting express a nation’s identity, preserve its history and help people understand each other. The arts also contribute to wellbeing and mental health, and creative industries, from film to design, employ millions of people and attract tourists. Without public support, many art forms that are not commercially profitable, such as classical music or traditional crafts, would struggle to survive.
-
I believe that science deserves priority because of its direct impact on health and survival. However, the arts make life meaningful, and the relatively small amounts they require offer considerable cultural and economic returns. A wise government should therefore support both.
-
In conclusion, while scientific research should receive the greater share of public funding, the arts play an important role in identity, wellbeing and the economy, so they should not be neglected.
